Google started to roll out its latest operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, earlier this week.

Unfortunately the update was only available to Nexus or Android One smartphone owners.

However third-party manufacturers are hard at work adapting the Google OS for their handsets.

HTC

In a twist from the norm, HTC will distribute the update to those owners outside of the US first.

In Europe we've long-suffered at the hands of hardware manufacturers, so HTC's u-turn makes for a pleasant change this time around.

HTC's flagship M9 series (along with the older M8) will receive their mallowy treat before the year's end.

While the HTC E9, E9+. One ME. One E8. One M8 EYE. Butterfly 3 and Desire 826 can expect their updates inside of Q1 and Q2 2016.

Bad news however for those sporting HTC's newer mid-range devices (such as the Desire 820), as HTC has been slow to roll out even the older Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

The M7 will also dodge the new update, with users having to rely on unofficial and unsupported ports from the wider tech community.

Samsung

Judging by past performance we can expect Sammy's latest and greatest to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update a mere few months after the official release.

This means the high-end Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will get theirs first, followed by the mid-range models with any luck.

Sony

Sony's made an official announcement that crams in an eye-watering number of handsets - but is still keeping mum on when exactly they will receive the tasty new Android flavour.

Still, some 10,000 lucky users have been able to get an early peek and test-drive the new software through Sony's Concept for Android beta campaign.

That list of handsets in full: Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia, Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4.

LG

LG are being particularly cagey when it comes to announcing Marshmallow availability, but it's almost a dead cert that the freshly-pressed LG V10, along with LG G4, LG G3 and LG G Flex 2 will see it before too long.

Need proof? T-Mobile in the US are expecting the update as soon as November.

Nexus

Google's new iteration of its Android firmware - Marshmallow, was unleashed and made available across its own Nexus devices last week.

The update should be winging its way to your Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (only the 2013, Wi-Fi and LTE models), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player as we speak.

The newly-announced Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P come with Marshmallow preinstalled as standard.
