Rowling’s upcoming adaptations. The author released designs for the wands used in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the sequel play which opens in London on July 30 (just in time for Harry’s birthday). But to cap it all off, Rowling later tweeted that her Monday was concluding with a private screening of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Unlike Cursed Child, Fantastic Beasts is a prequel that takes place in the 1920s, showing what the wizarding world was like back then in America. Few (if any) recognizable Harry Potter characters are slated to appear, though the most recent trailer featured much discussion about protagonist Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) relationship to Hogwarts’ Albus Dumbledore. Rowling explained the connection further on Twitter, noting that although Dumbledore was not yet Headmaster and thus unable to revoke Scamander’s expulsion, he saw something great in the young magizoologist. Rowling is very forthcoming with details about the Harry Potter series, but it’s probably safe to assume fans will have to wait a little longer for more Fantastic Beasts info.
