The new V90 signifies Volvo’s comeback in the large wagon segment and with the first reviews landing online it’s time to find out if it’s worth the wait.

Wagons are generally a pretty polarizing topic: you either love them or you don’t. We’d like to think that you belong in the first category so we can all agree that the new V90 does look like a very appealing proposal.

Autocar
delivers the first video review of the new Swedish estate in D5 AWD form. That last bit means that under the hood there is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel with 232hp channeled to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Building on the attractive design we’ve seen on the S90, the new V90 may not offer the biggest boot space in its class but 560 litres are more than enough to cover basically every but the most extreme needs.

Other highlights include that absolutely lovely interior that comes packed with quality materials and lots of tech, with the star of the show being of course the portrait-oriented touchscreen display for the infotainment system.

It even steers itself on occasion, as Volvo added their Pilot Assist semi-autonomous system that works at speeds of up to 80mph (130km/h) on clearly marked roads. Other safety systems include things like City Safety technology which combines an automated braking function in case of an emergency, Large Animal Detection to help you in avoiding hitting a moose or something similarly big and an auto-steer function to help you stay in your lane in case you need to.

The new V90 sounds like it hits all the right buttons but then again Volvo’s pricing strategy brings it in front of more powerful six-cylinder German rivals.
