Duterte admits he was taken to hospital

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Friday admitted that he was rushed to the hospital after he had a migraine attack on Thursday afternoon.

He explained that headaches are a common occurrence after he had an accident that caused a slipped disc.

Duterte said that the only way to stop his headache was to have a surgery but his common-law wife Honeylet, a nurse, and his doctors told him not to do so because it may go wrong. To alleviate the pain, Duterte said had to massage that part below his ear.

"Because sa spinal ko, that morning, sumakit lalo... I have this spinal issue," he told reporters before leaving for Davao City Friday afternoon.

Duterte said he was rushed to Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center on Thursday and instructed his staff to tell reporters that he was already on his way to Davao to ward them off.

“Because I don’t want you to follow me in the hospital because in Davao minsan sinusundan ako sa loob, eh kung nakatuwad ako doon hinihiringga sa pwet,” he said.

Lito Banayo, his political adviser, announced Thursday night that the mayor took a 9 p.m. flight to Davao.

Asked if he will be able to attend to his schedule activities in Tagum and Davao cities over the weekend, Duterte replied, "Inshallah." (God willing)

Doctors instructed Duterte to rest for two to three days. They also diagnosed him to have acute bronchitis.

“Kung hindi bronchitis lang, kung cancer, eh 'di nandoon pa ako ngayon,” he said.

“Sabi niya [doctor], ‘Once you reach Davao, you have to rest,” he added.

Duterte also dispelled rumors that he was just suffering from alcohol hangover.

"Hindi, ang duda ko parang nilason ako," he said.

"Baka utos ni... Dalawa. Hindi naman pwede si Grace," he added.

Asked if he can endure a three-month campaign given his health condition, Duterte just replied: "Kung siguro dalawang taong kampanya, su-surrender na ako... Sa totoo lang, nagmo-motor ako buong Pilipinas... Kung yun lang about endurance. Kaya lang ako nadisgrasya."

Won’t share medical records

While the state of his health is being discussed, Duterte shared his other health problems such as Buerger’s disease and Barrett’s esophagus.

According to Mayo Clinic, Buerger's disease is a rare disease that causes inflammation and thrombosis of the arteries and veins in the arms and legs that may lead to infection and gangrene. It is usually associated with smoking.

Barret's esophagus, on the other hand, is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the intestine replaces the tissue lining the esophagus, the US National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) said. It is associated with long-term gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). NIDDK added that those with Barrett's esophagus may develop a rare cancer called esophageal adencarcinoma.?

Duterte added that he does not drink because of Barret's.

However, he is not willing to reveal his medical records, as suggested by Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas to fellow presidential candidates.

“Tanungin mo muna siya kung tuli ba siya. Hambugero ito. How could he suffer an accident like me kung ang motor niya matumba ilang metro lang siya. Hindi naman buhay lalaki si Mar eh. Kami, marami kaming bali,” he said.

Later, he said he will not share his medical records.

“I will not do that... Ano ako buang? Para ka tuloy na you’re forcing yourself to say na I am not a liar,” he said.

“Twenty-two years akong buhay na mayor, bakit ngayon lang akong mamatay ngayong tatlong taon na ito? Alam mo sa totoo lang, kung gusto ako ng mga Pilipino, kahit alam nila na isang linggo lang akong buhay, payag na iyan sila, susugal na iyang Pilipino sa akin,” he added.

Duterte also urged the the Filipino voters once again to consider the other candidates first if they doubts with his health condition.

"Panghuli n’yo na ako isipin pero sabihin ko na sa inyo, ako ang last baraha n’yo," he said. — APG/JST, GMA News
