President Edgar Lungu has dispelled assertions and fears that the Patriotic Front plans to rig the August 11th general election.

Speaking to journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport shortly before departure for Saudi Arabia, President Lungu says those stakeholders accusing the ECZ of conniving with the PF to rig elections are being unfair to the commission.

President Lungu says the Electoral Commission of Zambia is full of integrity and cannot rig the elections.

He adds that those alleging that he is meeting some people with the intention of rigging the elections should prove their allegations and not speculate.

And asked to comment on the issue of issuing National Registration Cards and Voters Cards to foreigners,President Lungu said he does not work for the ECZ to answer such questions.

Meanwhile, the Head of State says he has gone to Saudi Arabia because the country is a rich producer of oil which Zambia can cut some deals with.

And the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has been urged to ignore all negative criticism coming from political players and just focus on conducting credible elections.

Zambia Republican Party President Wright Musoma says the commission must not listen to negative criticisms as they have the power to derail them from holding credible polls.

Mr. Musoma says some political parties will not stop talking ill about the commission because they fell they have already won the elections saying this is a recipe for confusion.

He says the commission must remain focused and do the best as most people are looking up to them for a good job.

Mr. Musoma has since advised fellow politicians not to drag the ECZ into politics but allow them carry out their duties effectively.

  1. There has also not been much talk about policies because all the political parties are more or less following the same policies. And this being the case, what differences in ideology or policies are there to discuss?
It is therefore not surprising that the only political party in Zambia today consistently raising ideological and policy issues is the Rainbow. Most of our politicians don’t talk about ideology.
And the other time Hakainde Hichilema tried to talk about ideology, it was a disaster. He revealed how empty he was even about the capitalist ideology that his party and himself are following. We don’t think you will hear Hakainde return to the issue of ideology in this campaign again after that short discourse with Dr Cosmas Musumali, the first deputy general secretary of the…

    • Pwahahahahaha! Ideology? What is ideology? How will it stop people moving from one party to the next as long as that party is likely to form government and people are poor in a multiparty democracy? How will ideology develop a nation if the people driving that ideology are inherently corrupt like some senior Rainbow leaders (recent experience)? What ideology has Rainbow talked about apart from just saying worker’s party, socialism blah blah blah? What do all these terms they throw around mean if the people who will run government are greedy and corrupt? The Brazilian president who is under investigation comes from a Worker’s party. Anything special about worker’s parties? Nothing as long as people who run them are corrupt. An ideology is not a magic pill that will automatically bring…

    • I do agree with him.

I don’t think he would rig an election.

People prophetising that are not Zambians.

Zambia has never rigged an election.

Anytime inciting that should be arrested. Lungu looks like a honourable man and I trust him on this.

      Thanks

    • An ideology is not a magic pill that will automatically bring about development. Rainbow party has just been saying socialism, socialism without explaining what they mean by that term even. At least capitalists like UPND and others say exactly how production of goods and services should take place and the ownership of assets. Is Rainbow saying Mr kabimba and Mr Mmembe will hand over proceeds of capitalism they amassed in PF? They should start from there if they are really serious about socialism. Otherwise the difference is the same as they say. Try something else as we now know that throwing around a term like capitalism doesn’t bring about the needed result.

    • Be warned Chagwa, you have a tendency of saying this and yet you act the exact opposite. You cant cheat us, but be rest assured that if you want to try the Mu7 or Mugabe way since these two chaps are your new found friends, you will be sorted out.

    • You daydreamers, socialism has failed all over the world. The latest casualty is Venezuela, which is exactly where UNIP and Zambia were in the 1980s – powercuts, useless currency, long queues for everything. Socialism in Cuba has been abandoned. Same in China and Russia. Why should Kabimba and Mmembe give us a socialism that works? Kabimba already had 3 years running PF and we are now harvesting the fruits of his PFoolish policies and actions. Fvck socialism.

    • UPND is not capitalist unless it has changed under the usurper HH. Anderson Kambela Mazoka wanted a liberal social democracy and this vision was carried by Sakwiba Sikota to the United Liberal Party. HH doesn’t even know what liberal democracy is. He just knows how to make money by screwing people.

    • Lungu was advised by M7 to meet the Dubai printing company in person. That’s why he’s going to the Middle East

Come on get real, What deals can a small Lungu with nothing to offer cut with an oil giant such as Saudi

    • It is as good as Edgar telling us he doesn’t drink beer!! Who would believe him?

    • But the socialism ideology of the Rainbow Party is not being practiced anywhere in the world. It is dead and buried. Even in China it is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism. Perhaps there is a bit of socialism in Cuba but what has it done for them. Because parties are not based on ideologies like the ideological differences between the Republicans and Democrats in America. It is based on the desire to get into government. This is why parties like the FDD and Heritage Party because the possibility of getting into power is very remote.

    • PF already rigged these elections. What do they say about this story in the Post:
      “ECZ registers foreign voters”
      By Kombe Mataka | Updated: 16 May,2016 ,12:15:33

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia has registered thousands of foreigners who have been mobilised by the ruling PF to take part in the August 11 general elections.

And the UPND has lodged a complaint at Woodlands Police Station against ECZ and the Department of National Registration for issuing Zambian identity cards to foreigners who are not even domiciled in the country….

    • contd…
…The Malawians who have registered to vote in Zambia include police officers, teachers. Also registered are some villagers from Mozambique.

Although ECZ issued voters cards to the alien voters, the identified foreigners also possess voters cards as well as national registration cards for their respective countries.

According to the ECZ mobile verification system, some of the foreigners are eligible to vote in two different constituencies.

Investigations have revealed that foreigners like Alina Banda from Malawi has a Zambian national registration card number 129055/55/1 and a Zambian voters card obtained on November 5, 2015. She, however, also possesses a Malawian voters card and national registration card…

    • contd..
…And when you attempt to verify Alina Banda’s eligibility to vote in Zambia using the advertised ECZ mobile phone verification method of dialing the code *214# and entering the NRC number, the name Alina Banda born on January 1, 1981, appears twice with the same details as eligible to vote in Vubwi and Chadiza constituencies.

The investigation has further revealed that named PF officials have managed to register thousands of Mozambicans, Congolese and some Angolans to vote in the coming general elections.

During the registration process in Eastern Province, village headmen in Malawi were offered money if they cooperated by taking their subjects to register for voting across the Zambian border.

“It has taken too long, but I am happy that the story which almost cost my…

    • contd..
“It has taken too long, but I am happy that the story which almost cost my life has finally been told,” Sukwa, the Chipata-based reporter, said.

“They almost killed me and at that time, nobody believed that this story was true, people thought we were pursuing a fake report. But this evidence of Malawians registering to vote in Zambia vindicates us.”

He said the villagers in Malawi talked to expressed excitement to come to Zambia to vote for President Lungu.

“They are happy, they are saying they were given PF chitenge material so that they can study the face of the person they should vote for in August. Some of them say they were promised jobs and others money. When you ask them to prove if they are Malawians, they easily show you their Malawian IDs and most of them are…

    • This is what the dog said to the goat before he tore him to pieces.
“Please, please relax. I won’t bite you”.

Speaking quietly, but carrying a big stick.
      We know.

    • Zambians will kill any foreigners caught voting on August 11. Word should go to all these neighbouring countries and disseminate information in their social media. UPND and other opposition parties should actually approach private TV and radio stations in those countries to warn their citizens not to travel to Zambia as they will be killed if discovered. Zambians have now learnt to kill with their hands these days. Even those so called soldiers and a traditional killer caught may not even be the true killers but just arrested to give assurance to neighbouring citizens given NRCs and voters cards that Zambians wont kill them.

    • We told you that Chakolwa Samalama is defecting. Look at the red tie. Or is he trying to remind girlfriend Mumbi Phiri of the blood they drink together.
On a serious note what deals is he going to cut with the Saudis if its not checking on the financing of his election?

    • It’s not the voting that’s democracy; it’s the counting. ~Tom Stoppard, Jumpers

It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything. Joseph

The purpose of an election is not to name the winner, it is to convince the losers that they lost. The winner rarely contests an election, the winner has little reason to investigate discrepancies. It is the looser that will always do this. Dan Wallach

    • LUNGU IS A LIAR! LIAR LIAR LIAR LIAR! EVENLY A TWO YEAR OLD CHILD, EVEN A MORON CAN ATTEST TO THIS FACT THAT LUNGU IS SWEATING HARD TRYING TO ACQUIRE MEANS TO RIG THE AUGUST ELECTIONS. LUNGU IS A THIEF. LUNGU IS A SMOOTH CRIMINAL. LUNGU CAN OUTWIT US WITH HIS RIGGING STRATEGY IF WE ARE NOT VERY CAREFUL. CAN ANYONE BELIEVE LUNGU’S RESPONSES TO THESE ALLEGATIONS? LUNGU CAN DENY IT EVEN WHEN “IT IS INSIDE!” UPND SHOULD RE-INFORCE ITS COUNTER RIGGING STRATEGY. KAMINAMINSA SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OUTWIT US ONCE AGAIN. THE WILL OF THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE ON AUGUST 11 MUST BE HONORED. VIVA CHANGE VIVA! VIVA HH VIVA!

  2. We don’t think you will hear Hakainde return to the issue of ideology in this campaign again after that short discourse with Dr Cosmas Musumali, the first deputy general secretary of the central committee of the Rainbow Party in charge of ideology and mobilisation.
You seldom hear the leaders of our political parties and their cadres talk about policy issues.

Policies are a non-issue for them. These are considered to be matters for civil servants in government to deal with. Our politics are devoid of meaningful policy discussions. And our politicians are very empty when it comes to issues of policies. Getting a government tender and making a few millions of dollars from that doesn’t make one an economic policy expert. Out of ignorance, they think everyone with a bit of money in his…

    • If you want to try socialism, go to Venezuela which is a bigger disaster version of Zambia – powercuts, hyper-inflation, food shortages, and useless currency.

  3. When we critically analyse this whole issue of newcomers and hijackers, one will realise that actually, there are no newcomers or hijackers; they are all members of one political party with factions or sections. What we see as separately identifiable political parties are actually factions of the same directionless, neoliberal capitalist party. And this is what makes it so easy for them to be seen moving from one party to the other so often and repeatedly. They are nothing but members of the same political party. So there are no newcomers or hijackers as Mulenga and Dr Scott would like us to believe. Just welcome each other, embrace each other and work together as members of the same political party, whatever name may be dominant at one time or the other. The other time, the dominant name…

  4. What a wonderful world we would have if we all tried to live by the golden maxim – do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Luke 6:31).

We say this in light of what has been happening over the last few months, weeks and days.

The other week, Mulenga Sata resigned from the Patriotic Front and its government to join the UPND. “I have left the PF to the hijackers. HH and your team, I thank you for the warm welcome and acceptance. My action is today a result of my principle and conscience…” said Mulenga.

And the other Saturday, Dr Guy Scott, former vice-president of the Patriotic Front and its government, said: “I think these newcomers in the PF, these new MMD hijackers…we have warned them, I mean several times, I have spoken about this problem in the PF but nothing has…

  8. Dear Lungu, we really did not expect you to stand up and tell us YES, WE ARE RIGGING THIS ELECTION!

But we DO KNOW that you have failed to walk the walk after all the talk, especially on violence by PF cadres.

And WE KNOW that PF is a party of LIES. From day one! 90 days, more money in your pockets, the list is endless.

Now you want us to believe you have suddenly changed you spots and given up embezzlement and lies?????

    WE ARE NOT FOOLS.

  9. This kind of crookedness by Lungu is alarming.1.He says ECZ is credible 2.asked about registering foreigners he says he doe s not work for ECZ instead of saying if that allegation is true should be investigated. That’s what Lungu will do come 12th augast,2016 when he loses the election he denial and leave Judge Chulu and Priscilla Mulenga to solve. This con man called Lungu is so canning he will put so many people in problems.Use them and dump them.

  10. Lungu, we really did not expect you to stand up and tell us YES, WE ARE RIGGING THIS ELECTION!

    WE ARE NOT FOOLS!!!

  11. Can Lungu accept that they are going to rigging the elections! This man can no be trusted, even the way he become the PF president was very questionable, now today he should trusted, my foot!

  12. You daydreamers, socialism has failed all over the world. The latest casualty is Venezuela, which is exactly where UNIP and Zambia were in the 1980s – powercuts, useless currency, long queues for everything. Socialism in Cuba has been abandoned. Kabimba already had 3 years running PF and we are now harvesting the fruits of his PFoolish policies and actions. Fvck socialism.

  13. But the revelation of the foreign voters registered in Zambia is a shame. Surely the president for once should sober a bit. Surely you can’t walk with your head high with such overwhelming evidence against an institution you control through the appointment of commissioners. Shame.
And serious your answer is I don’t work for E.C.Z. This is very worrying.

  14. If u hear Lungu speak like that then u know the opposite is true. ECL is going to put the final touches to their election rigging plan using the Dubai Printer, Al Ghurair and financed by Saudi Arabia. Lungu is determined to win these elections at all costs. Why do u think PF is bent on using the Dubai Printer? Printing of extra and pre-marked ballots is key to ECL’s rigging Template. Never mind what ECL is saying rigging is in progress and we just have to stop it. ECL and PF must fall#

    • To know the truth, always go to the opposite of whatever Lungu says. So in this case, this is a clear confirmation that PF will attempt to rig the elections.

  15. I agree with Joseph Mwenda from The Post newspaper’s “social trends”, presidents say the most stupldest things when they are at an airport about to board a flight.

  16. Someone show this clueless dunderhead today’s Post headline. Proof that thousands of malawians and Mozambiquans and Congolese have been registered as voters in Zambia and there is proof. Lungu and his supporters are !d!ots.

    • The challenge now is………solve the problem before the elections….otherwise the opposition have been dribbled even before the game starts. Shame and sleepy UPND.

  17. @ 8 some pipo better stay quite if u don’t have what to contribute. who told you that what the post published is true? if not careful zambia will be in chaos because of these devils (hh & mmembe) who are thirsty for blood of zambia pipo

  18. The question is:- what has motivated Saudi Arabia to single out Zambia and supply Crude Oil at a cheaper price than the ruling market price?? What’s the catch? The devil is in the detail. Does this Oil have the same calorific value per litre as the rest of the Oil Saudi Arabia is supplying to the rest of the World? What’s in it for them?
I have never heard of Zambia opting to sell Copper at a cheaper price than the ruling market price to any Country just like that.
So, there is definitely something going on.

  19. Comment:@ Mushota,u might be right on that, but what happened 2 your favaurite Miles Sampa of DF I thought he jumped with u 2 upnd nd u hardly talk abt him?.its a pity that de man went all by himself without any support.

  20. This man and the commission have the same mentality and their initials are almost the same. One is ECL and the other is ECZ. On one hand he is daily praising ECZ and when confronted with evidence about foreign voters, suddenly grows cold feet and disowns them. Judge Chulu, careful. You are on your own.

    • Chainama hospital should start expanding bed space. I am seeing so many of these people admitted at the end of elections! Suspicious of even a rat running across your living room and say rigging is likely! Horrible!

  21. OFF THIS TOPIC? BUT CADRES SHOULD NOT BE FERRIED TO THE AIRPORT EACH TIME THE PRESIDENT IS ARRIVING OR LEAVING THE COUNTRY. THIS FRIGHTENS TRAVELLERS WHETHER FOREIGN OR LOCAL TO SEE THE UNRULY CROWD.

  22. To you priscill you have head ECL does not work for ECZ,so with proof we have you will go to jail alone come September,2016.The bible says don’t put trust in an earthly man who feeds on bread because one day he will die and all hope will be lost.

  23. What a contradiction by Lungu. In one breath he’s vehemently defending ECZ and their supposed ‘integrity’, but in another he’s dodging the question by claiming “he does not work for the ECZ to answer such questions”. This kind of contradiction is suspicious.

And for once, could we please demand that the president stops campaigning when he’s on official duties. He’s busy waving party symbols when he’s paid by state funds to go to the airport and Dubai. He’s even waving party symbol while he’s boarding the official plane. This must stop.

And the timing of this Saudi Arabia trip is not only poor but it is also suspicious and insensitive.

  24. You enslaving wicked proud Jericho Wall of cozenage, mystification, inveiglement, chicanery, deceitfulness, conjuration, repression, trickery, manipulation, beguilement, craftiness, enchantment, calculated deception, dishonesty, fakery, contrivance, perfidy, dupery, underhandedness, confusion, violence, machination, confidence trick (conman), sanctimoniousness, corruption, gambit, hypocrisy, intrigue, mendacity, I command you to die in the name of Jesus. You wicked Jericho Wall, representing the devil, God has judged you and the hosts of heaven attack you to your eternal destruction. Loose Zambia and let it go to its God’s ordained destiny of peace, prosperity, shalom and greatness!! I prophecy blessing, abundance and honour on Zambia in the name of Jesus.

  25. Wina azalila….wina azalila……..The PF has already created an inbuilt winning plan by registering foreigners and double or three card carrying voters. It is clear that the confidence they are showing comes from a well calculated move. UNZA challenges….Miners without jobs, Load shedding without a lasting solution….the price of fuel….the Dollar issues……No serious jobs created in 5 years……..Wage freeze……no money in the pocket…….dividing the country on tribal lines………corrupt deals…..breaking the constitution with malice……the list is endless. With all these challenges and failure to give leadership…..It is only wise that the govt is voted out. Alas……the PF are not ready to vacate even if their record is poor. It is really sad!!!

  26. This is what made Mwanawasa great on issues of the constitution………He would very quickly put in an injunction to stop something from taking place in good time…….He used to say the “Law will visit you” Exactly what put Kaunda off and was defeated with his hands down. I am failing to find a reasonable legal team from the opposition that can really put up a legal battle within the shortest possible time to stop someone going ahead with the illegalities in breaking the constitution. For instance, the Deputy Minister at the moment are illegally in the office and drawing salaries but the opposition is waiting for Mwanawasa in his grave to come and solve their issues………sleepy!!!! You win elections before voting and not during voting.

  27. From a neural point of view, HH is not convincing. People may get the change of government they want but HH can explain how he got rich, I have never seen the UPND manifesto.
