The circle of life spun again on Sunday night, as Sir Elton John participated in a highly publicized edition of Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show.

On the post-Super Bowl 50 special episode of James Corden’s late-night show, the host and John drove around a rainy Los Angeles while singing the 68-year-old’s biggest hits, from “Your Song,” “I’m Still Standing,” “Crocodile Rock,” and “Tiny Dancer,” to even “Circle of Life” from The Lion King. (For that classic, Corden wore a lion costume which he eventually gave to John to wear too.)

Interspersed between selections from John’s classic songbook, the duo talked about style, the fact that John doesn’t own a mobile phone, and even the singer’s children. (John first became a father in 2010, and then again in 2013.) “I can’t believe I’m sitting in the car telling you this. It’s changed my life,” John said of his kids. “I thought I was too old to be a dad. No, I’m not too old to be a dad. You’re not too old to do anything. Those kids have changed my life completely; changed our life completely.”

As the segment ended, John and Corden performed “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” in unison. “If I could tell my 12-year-old self I would be doing this with my life, my head would explode,” Corden said.

Speaking to EW after taping the segment, but before it aired on Sunday, Corden made similar remarks. “To sing ‘Tiny Dancer’ with Elton John in a car, you just think: If this was an auction prize, it would go for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I feel lucky every time I get in the car with any of these people who I just really admire and respect,” he said.
