Fall Asleep Faster by Sticking One of Your Feet Outside of Your Covers

Now matter how hard you try, sometimes you just can’t fall asleep when you want to. There are a lot of tricks for helping your brain head to sleepy town, but this scientifically supported method might be one of the simplest.

Body temperature plays a big part in falling asleep. Having a high body temperature can make you feel more alert, and thus, more awake. When it’s bed time, your body tries to cool down before you go to sleep, but there are some things you can do to help it along. That’s why this video from the New York Magazine YouTube channel suggests sticking your foot (or feet) out of your covers to help your body release some heat. The bottoms of your feet are hairless, and they have special vascular structures to help regulate heat loss; making them the perfect candidate for regulating your body temp. Some of you may do this on your own already (I do), but now you know why it feels so comfortable. Sometimes just using your feet isn’t enough to cool down, however, so you might have to get creative.
