Green-Wood Cemetery Luminaries

To the Editor:

Re “Panel Votes to Designate 30 Properties Landmarks” (news article, Feb. 24):

It is heartening to read that the Landmarks Preservation Commission gave its approval to parts of Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn as a landmark. There are so many famous and infamous individuals lying side by side in Green-Wood Cemetery that lovers of history will enjoy touring this site.

Famed New Yorkers such as Leonard Bernstein, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Alice Roosevelt, the first wife of President Theodore Roosevelt, F. A. O. Schwarz and Frank Morgan (“The Wizard of Oz”) are buried near the notorious political boss William Tweed and the gangster “Bill the Butcher” Poole. Where else but a cemetery can one find such a diverse assortment of people?
