October 2015 Prayer Requests

Reflecting on Romans 12, we are reminded that serving others isn’t just a “good deed” or something to scratch off our good Samaritan to-do list; it’s our spiritual act of worship. When we sacrifice - our plans, our days off, our comfort - to serve others, we glorify God and offer him our sincerest worship. I encourage you to pray about this verse and share it with others. Where could the Lord be calling you to serve? How would our lives look different if we began seeing sacrifice and service as a joyful act of worship instead of just a task?

In light of this busy month, we ask that you would pray for us to get more volunteers to sign up across the board. We have an immediate need for volunteers to help out at almost every event we hold throughout the week. Our biggest volunteer need is for people to help out with our Food Recovery Event on Saturday. This event is a lot like the Food Network show “CHOPPED” but without the pressure, bright lights, and ridiculous emotional breakdowns.  We often have groups from UT or churches help us out and it’s always a lot of fun! I'm in charge of the event every week and need help. Grab a friend and sign up!

In addition to Saturday morning helpers, we also need helpers at our Prayer Time on Monday, topic leaders (share any kind of hobby or passion with the group--training, yoga, martial arts, meditation, drawing, fashion, beauty, etc.) for the Clothing Closet Event on Thursday, and volunteers for our Mini Mission Outreach on Friday. If you would like to volunteer with us for these upcoming events, feel free to click on any of the links to sign up on our website. You’ll also find our new Online Orientation on our website, which you can watch before volunteering to feel better prepared.

As volunteers and clients head back to school, there are many adjustments to be made. Pray that volunteers can find a place for serving SYM in their new schedules. Some of our clients are heading back to school, too! Some still live on the streets but many get housing by taking out college grants or loans, so please pray for smooth transitions for them also.

Another prayer request is for our friend Darvin, whose worker visa status is still pending approval. Please pray that his visa would get approved soon as he continues to volunteer with us until we find out if/when he will be able to stay in the US longer.

We also ask that you would pray with us about a new event we hope to begin soon. At the moment, we are waiting on approval from a group that we’re hoping will let us use their team to launch this new event. We believe that this event will be very beneficial to our clients, and we will be able to release more details when we move closer to the event launch. For now, I can tell you that I’m very excited about it!
