Spirits of Saoradh #2

Forever and One Week

Rate this book
The Spirits of Saoradh, who carry the guilt of a crime they committed when they were alive, now spend their ghostly days in the Void, dark nothingness where time and space are distorted. Until they get bound to a human. As often as needed, that human can call them to the real world, ask them to grant a wish, then send them back to the Void. The Spirits also have to follow strict rules or be punished, unaware that they can earn their redemption through a selfless sacrifice.

Spirit Logan despises the obedience he has to show to his humans, and prefers the enjoyable solitude of the Void. For three years, he has managed to threaten them into severing their bond, thus having his memory wiped of their existence. Except his latest human, an emotionless woman with a secret past, isn’t scared of him. Worse, she doesn’t care about his ability to make wishes come true.
Tessa, a twenty-six-year-old nursery teacher in Fort William, Scotland, doesn’t expect a sullen ghost only she can see and touch to burst through her solid defences. Both dismayed and intrigued, she offers Logan a deal he can’t refuse: to live with her in the human world for one week, at the end of which she will agree to release him.
Slowly, Tessa braves through the safety of her detachment towards people to show Logan some kindness. But the more her feelings deepen, the more Logan increases his distance…

Born in France, I studied hotel management before spending a couple of years in England, Ireland and Belgium.
In 2001, hubby and I settled close to the Loch Ness monster in the Highlands of Scotland, and soon, two children and one dog joined us.

Dramatic scenes are my favourite to work on, which is perhaps a reminiscence of those teenage years when every single ones of my stories had to end in epic tragedy (Shakespeare had nothing on me). Thankfully, these days, I veer towards the happy-ever-after finale set in a glorious orange and red sunset.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

I really enjoyed this book! This authors really knows how to write and her books feature realistic characters and give a unique touch to the topic. I really like her writing style and got easily into the story because of that. The story flows really well, the pace is great and once I started reading I did not want to put it down. I love it when I find an author who's writing style works for me as it makes reading so effortless.

This is the second book in this series, but it can be just as easily read as a standalone. I did read the first book first and noticed there where a few mentions of one of the main characters from the first book and some recurring side characters. There are enough hints to still give it some feel of continuity. While I really enjoyed this book, I wasn't a big fan of the twist at the end, it just seemed a bit sad and while it does sort of makes sense, I still preferred if things were differently.

Forever and One Week features Tessa and Logan, both have had something bad happen in their past and I felt the tone of this book was a tad more serious and dark than the first book, which was a bit more light hearted. But the author pulled off both really well. I was really curious to find out what these characters had gone through, but at the same time I didn't want to know as I knew it would be bad. I thought the author managed the reveals very well, slowly we find out more pieces of their past, while they slowly grow closer.

I really grew fond of these two characters. And I really felt for them. Logan who pushes everyone away and Tessa who has gone through so much that she learned to retreat in herself where nothing can hurt her. These two are very solitary and think they don't need anyone else, but seeing them change and when they meet each other and finally find the strength to face their past was amazing. Seeing Tessa open up and feel her emotions instead of burying her head in the sand as Logan would say. There are some scenes that made me a bit uncomfortable, but I do think they showed her personality and it made sense why she acted that way. And I just hope things like that never happen to her again.

The characters felt so real and they were interesting and I wanted to know more about them and what they had gone through. They change throughout this book and I felt like at the end they both were able to face their past and handle it better. There are also a few side characters I really liked, especially Alicia. I wanted to know more about her, the friendly, shy girl with the skin disease and who's afraid to show her skin as people can be so cruel and mean. I really liked Tessa and Alicia their friendship and it was fun to see their friendship develop. Then there is Alicia her dad who also plays a part in the story and he was such a quirky character. I really appreciated what he did for Tessa and how he helped her in his own way.

I really liked the romance. Tessa and Logan are great together and I enjoyed seeing them grow closer and open up to each other. Logan starts off not wanting to do anything with Tessa and have her server her bond, but she refuses and offers him a deal. They will have one week together and after that if he still wants out she will ask to get their bond removed. And slowly their relationship changes. Well in real time it does go fast as it only spans slightly more than a week in time, but I still thought it was realistically written. The only part of their relationship I didn't like as much was the sex, I liked their emotional connection more and the switch to sex just felt off somehow, not sure why. These two help each other and finally find a way to face their own past too, they really get the best out in each other. They made a great couple.

Concerning the world building I am pleased to say this book added quite some things. We see other wishes that Tessa made than the main characters of the first book and see more of wheat the spirits can do. And we learn more about the void and the two spirits who live there. There is also something about the punishments that get explained more and I felt like we got a better feel of how this world worked and why the spirits exist, which was neat.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this book! The authors her writing style really works for me and once I started reading I didn't want to stop. There story unfolds nicely, telling the story of two solitary characters who had something happen to them in their past they still aren't fully over. I felt like they both helped another and were able to change, open up and deal with things better because of that. I really liked these two man characters and their romance, they brought out the best in each other. This book also adds some details concerning the world building, which I liked as it gave me a better feel for why these spirits exist and it explained things like the punishments. I think I might like this book even more than the first, it's really good and I am looking forward to see what she writes next!

I received a free copy of this book from the Making Connections group in exchange for an honest review.

This has been a tough review for me to write. Not because I hated it, but because I loved it and it’s hard for me to get past “Squee!” to something that makes sense.

Spirits of Saoradh live in a nothingnesss called the Void and are comprised of spirits who carry the guilt of their crimes while living. Logan is one of these spirits, though he contends his guilt is not from his crime but his failure to protect his niece. He despises the over and over binding to humans to grant wishes and each time lasts as long as he’s required then use anger and aggression to scare the human into sending him home to the Void he prefers. This time though he’s assigned to Tessa who does not behave like any human has before.

Tessa doesn’t care about wishes. Life has conditioned her to accept the little she has and endure the rest. The simple test wish of a cup of coffee made her day. Tessa has had a tough life. She’s lived on the streets and to survive still trades sex for cash keep to lights on. Experience has taught her to endure, not fight, and she falls deep into detachment when the going gets tough instead of working through the problem.

Both Tessa and Logan are amazingly written characters. They are destructive opposites. She can’t understand his violence and tendency to run from his past and he can’t understand her acceptance and detachment. They are both flawed characters and you grow impatient with each at times because while they behave true to themselves you can understand why their inherent behavior is so frustrating. But Tessa does understand guilt and she knows Logan is hiding from more than he claims. Logan becomes something to fight for and Tessa becomes his bridge to the truth.

The story is enriched with side characters that have a purpose and aren’t just fluff. And they are written as complex as the MCs. Tessa’s new friend Alicia has a condition that makes her self conscious to the world but has a warm and supporting family. I loved how Tessa and Alicia saw each other’s lives as better than their own, a nod to our continual quest for the green grass on the other side. Even Owen, Tessa’s sex for money call, is more complex than he seems, and not the bad guy.

Tessa finally pushes the envelope with Logan and creates my squee worthy ending that I still smile about.

I did have a niggle though and it pertained to the world building. I didn’t read book 1, maybe that would have helped, so while I loved the uniqueness of the concept, I couldn’t always follow the events and people in the Void. As a result I didn’t feel very sympathetic towards any of them. But that was minor and didn’t detract from my enjoyment of Tessa and Logan.

This is a series, and one I hope there is more for. This story hit me in the heart several times and gave me the ending I wanted. I hope to see more from this author.

This is the second book of the series and I couldn't WAIT to get to reading it. It could stand alone decent, however, I would highly recommend that the first one be read first. The first book has more details and background and this book references the events of the last one a couple of times.

Now, in this one Tessa is bonded to the spirit Logan, who would rather spend all of eternity in the Void. Tessa wouldn't mind being alone either, but a part of her is happy to not be alone anymore. After some events and lots of fights, Tessa makes a deal with Logan: be her friend for a week and at the end she will agree to release him and tell Addy (the lady who gifted Logan to her) to break the bond. Logan agrees.

These two have a lot, and I mean A LOT, of baggage from their past they are trying to sort through. They both have done things that they regret and are weighing them done. Sad thing for Logan is that he can't remember everything about his past, so it makes it worse that a part of him won't let him remember.

Now....I did not like Logan. He was a total jerk-o throughout 95% of the book. Yes, yes, he had done something bad and now he is steeped in guilt. He keeps his distance from Tessa, because he fears he may hurt her. I get it, but he was SUCH A BOOTY! I wanted to kick him. Once he got over himself, I was able to like-ish him.

I loved the character, Tessa. She was a girl who really deserved to have an HEA. I felt so bad for her. But I loved how complex she was. I wanted more of her POV then Logan's. I wanted to know more about her.

This was a lot of fun and it was a quick read. I feel it was smaller than the first one? Not quite sure, but I'm glad it was shorter. Honestly, I feel it could have been smaller. There were a couple of spots were I had to skim, but the rest of 98% had me absolutely hooked! I hope there are more books to come! I want to learn more about Aedan (spell?) and I hope he gets a HEA; he sooooo lonely and he's so nice. Poor guy...ghost...spirit...ghostly spirit guy.

In the end, this was a fun continuation of the series! I didn't like it nearly as much as the first book, but that is prolly because of the 2% of lull and Logan. Yes, I do feel pity for Logan, but he was not very nice to...anyone. I liked the rest of the cast and I liked the story. Love this world! I can't wait for more by this author. I do highly recommend this book, but I do advise to read the first one. Out of five stars, I shall stamp this with....mmmmmmmmmm, ummmmmmmmmm..........4.

*I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review*

I have sort of fell into this reading slump where I only read non-paranormal fiction. The idea of vampires, werewolves and other mythical/fairy tale creatures were not tempting enough to pull me out of my hole. Harsh, I know, but I was so exhausted with work that I just could not muster the energy to delve into the world of paranormal fiction. Don't get me wrong, they are one of my fav genres! But I just could not afford to pick up a paranormal book without expecting an all nighter, early working hours forced me away. (Just admit it Natasha, you're getting old!)

I have never been more glad for a long weekend. On the day I decided to pick up Forever and One Week is the day my passion for paranormal romance was reignited! Everything about the book screamed "DON'T-YOU-DARE-PUT-ME-DOWN!". From the start, I was pulled into the mysterious world of the spirit void, mortal bonds, and wishes-granting ghosts (that are hot rather than creepy).
(My dream Logan ❤)

Having not read the first book of the series, I was initially confused with the terms used in the book, but as the story progressed, everything fell into place and fit perfectly into the missing puzzle pieces in my mind. Forever and One Week is a cross breeding of Aladdin and the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, a dark fairy tale that is guaranteed to make your head wonder.

Cairn's writing was realistically amazing. I loved Tessa for her inner strength and courage despite the life she was forced into. I loved Logan's ferocious protectiveness towards his family, even though he was dealt with a hand of nasty fate. I loved how the theme of the book revolved around second chances and true love. It's never easy to see behind the mask to discover the true beauty that lies within. Remarkable story, great romance. Recommending to you paranormal lovers out there!

Just have to create a fan art!!

This was the first book I read by this author and I would love to read more. Yes, this book is part of a series but you can read it as a standalone. I didn't read the first one in the series and I was fine.

I guess you could say this was a combination of Fantasy and Romance. The premise seems strange, but it hooked me right away. The chemistry between Logan and Tessa was HOT! I loved the slow burn and all the flirting. It was a very well written romance. Then there was the fantasy aspect of it, which was done very well also. Logan was the perfect dark and brooding hero. He had his reasons for being dark and brooding though and the reasons were totally heartbreaking. I teared up a bit when his secrets came to light. Tessa was such a relatable heroine. I loved the fact that she blushed sometimes. Who does that? I DO! Ha. I just loved it because I blush all the time so it was nice to meet a heroine who was sweet and didn't always have the perfect thing to say or whatever. She had her secrets too and really, she was perfect for Logan.

The author did an incredible job with the world building of the Fantasy part of this book. There were a couple of villains that I hated and wanted more of (just because I love villains), but from what I understand, these characters will probably get another book at some point. The author did a great job explaining how the Void worked and the ruled and everything.

I would highly recommend this book for people who love a dash of fantasy with their romance. I can't wait to read more in the series!

I did receive a free copy of the book from the author in exchange for feedback, but my reviews are entirely my own. I received no other compensation.

Forever and One Week is the second book in the Spirits of Saoradh series of books. While this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone, or you could read this one and then go back and read the first one. This book is about Tessa and Logan. The reader starts out with Logan who is a spirit of the Saoradh and is granting his current human wishes, after counting down five minutes the Spirit, who is Logan decides he has had enough and scares the man telling him to make sure the bond is severed or he will come back and kill the man. Then the reader switches to Tessa, who is living in a very rundown apartment and has just had her electric turned off in the winter time. So Tessa calls Owen to come over so that they can have sex in exchange for giving Tessa enough money to get the electric back on. While she is waiting for him, an old lady comes to see her. Adelaide tells Tessa that she has brought her a gift, an Eintridh, which is what allows the spirit to come to the owner. Also Adelaide marks Tessa’s eye so that she can see the mark on the box and will be able to see the spirit. Then after Adelaide gives Tessa her card in case she has any questions or problems she leaves. While Tessa does not believe the old woman she does not do anything with the wooden box. As Owen is leaving, Tessa realizes there is a mark on there that she had not seen before. This is when Logan appears and to make sure he is real, Tessa wishes for coffee. When Tessa tries to talk to Logan he just tries to act all scary, but Tessa does not respond the way other humans have before and when he says she won’t be able to command him as he does not want to be here, she responds with then go away. Logan goes back to the void. Since Tessa is supposed to call for him after the first appearance, he is not supposed to leave the void till this. While this should make him happy, this just makes Logan wonder about Tessa. I will leave it there and let you read the rest for yourself.

This book is awesome, just as the first book in this series was. The characters pull you in very fast. The characters are well developed and the story has a very fast pace. I found I finished the book in just two days as I kept wanting to read, just one more chapter. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romances, paranormal romance, romances involving spirits and such. This book does have some adult situations so I would recommend this book for mature readers.

I’m giving this book 5 hearts

I read the first of this series for review and thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so, I asked the author for copies of the following stories.

This is the second in the series and follows a different set of main characters to the first but with other main characters from the first present. These reamaining characters are key to both stories and any future ones - this you will understand when you read it.

It reads as a standalone book entirely so there's no need to worry if you've bought this without realising there was another to read first. There is one small reference to the first book but if you hadn't read it, you wouldn't even register it as it refers to a past event in an unlinked manner.

***Possible spoilers***

This story follows Tessa - a young woman who has had a very difficult life and Logan (her assigned spirit) who is very reluctant to be linked to anyone at all, let alone such a closed off young girl.

Tess; despite her life so far, is strong and independant and even when presented with the option of unlimited wishes, can't find it in herself to be selfish. She's a kind and caring girl behind the walls she's built up and Logan comes into her life just at a point where she could easily have exploited his powers but chooses not to. She only wants simple things...things we all want and some take for granted but having these things come to her so easily doesn't seem to sit right with her.

Logan - he's a hot spirit with an air of arogance about him. He'd rather be lonely than attached to some girl. He's hiding from his past and not looking to change that anytime soon but Tessa is desperate to help him.

The book centers around this relationship - will it blossom and help either one or both of them or will it fail miserably and leave them both even worse off than before...? I can't tell you that but I can tell you it's definitely worth a read to find out!

The book is very well written, as with the first - it took only 2 days to reads in between work and two small children so definitely had that un-put-downable feeling. If I could have read it in one go, I definitely think I would have.

Forever and One Week (Spirits of Saoradh, #2) by Caroline Cairn

4 of 5

Copy provided for an honest review.

This was the first book I read of the Spirits of Saoradh series – it can be read as a standalone.

When life keeps knocking you down and you are scraping to get buy, what would you do? If a woman drops off a spirit that can grant you any wishes you want, what would you wish for?

This is Tessa’s life. She is a nursery school teacher scraping to get by. Some days she chooses to pay bills over eating and somedays she doesn’t do either. Tessa has to make some tough choices to survive. She has a rough life but everything changes when a woman drops off a spirit that can grant her wishes.

This was a new and refreshing paranormal/fantasy romance book to me. The plot and characters are well developed and very intriguing! I really enjoyed the “paranormal” aspects of the story. Logan being a handsome and pig-headed spirit (like a genie) who can grant wishes really hooked me into the story. How fresh and cool! Logan is also a bit of an alpha male and very protective- HOT!

Tessa is an average woman with a complex and difficult past. She is very relatable and her past/current circumstances forced me to connect with her. I felt heartbroken for her and wanted her to succeed. The mix of paranormal details seemed to be just about right. At first I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to immerse myself into the plot, and there were some difficult/slow times, but it pulled me in and overall it’s worth the slow moments! Caroline has a wonderful writing style that keeps the details flowing without becoming overbearing.

Logan and Tessa together are fantastic. They are funny, sometimes awkward, heartbreaking and heartwarming. I really enjoyed their interactions with each other. It was nice to see both of their perspectives and to see where they came from and how that made them the characters they are by the end of the story. Also the chemistry is hot!!!

Check out this steamy romance!

**3.5 Fiery Hearts!**

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Forgiveness doesn't need to be earned to be given.

Logan is a spirit who remembers his past; or who remembers what he wants to of his past. He's twisted the memories of his past and when he finds out what really happened then he'll fall deeper into the hole of nothingness. As a spirit he's mean, snarky, and wildly dis-likeable, but Tessa sees through all of his gruffness and wants to get to know the man he was.

Tessa has a had a difficult life, so much so that even when she discovers Logan can grant her just about any wish she wants that she doesn't use it. At least not right away. And when she does, I think it's mostly to appease him. She reserved and hauntingly quiet.

Together these two are so similar and yet so completely opposite. Logan needs to learn to face his past head on and forgive himself. Luckily she finds a way to help him. Tessa needs to learn to open up to the world she's shut out, which is easier said than done.

Forever and One Week is book #2 in the Spirits of Saoradh series. It combines genie-like powers and ghost-like properties to create the spirits of Saoradh, unique spirits who sometimes need just as much help as the people they are assigned to. It's a fascinating premise that makes me want to read. I can say, however, that I enjoyed book one much better. I understand some people have worst pasts than others, but goodness gracious this one was downright depressing at times. And when it comes to their relationship...they're both in denial...even after they cross the invisible line.

My Favorite Moment: For an absolutely gut retching moment it was such an intense moment that it inevitably was my favorite. When Tessa is placed in a very bad position and doesn't want to let Logan help in fear of what may happen to him as a result. It was a very sad and powerful moment.

***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
***Contains adult situations, semi graphic violence, and language. Not for young readers***
***Cassandra Delorie #NerdGirlLola’s Review***

This is the second installment in the Spirits of Saoradh series. In this book we meet Logan, a Spirit who has no need for his human counterparts. So much so that he always finds a way to sever their bond, until he meets Tessa. Tessa is his current human and she is completely different than any of his previous ones, she doesn’t want anything to do with him, initially. This leads to some very awkward encounters between the two.

I absolutely loved this book for multiple reasons. One, it felt darker than the first book. I love a dark read and this one was riding that fine line. I think this is mostly due to both of their back stories. There were quite a few points in the book that got very intense. I was literally biting my fingernails and that’s a good thing in my book.

Another reason I really enjoyed the book is we got to find out more about the Judge, the Punisher, and the one being behind this whole thing. I can’t go in to detail but let’s just say my eyes were opened to a whole new side of their story. I truly hope the series continues and we get a whole book on them.

As with the first book the writing was excellent and engaging. The characters are well written and relatable. I fell completely in love with Logan and his Lone Wolf demeanor.

Overall I think is a superb read. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I would definitely recommend this series to all lovers of PNR.

I would start by saying that I did really like this book. Although I wouldn't compare it to the emotions that the first one awoke in me ,this book is great in its own way. Logan being a bad boy and a wounded soul got me from his first rude sentence, while Tessa had me feeling for all that she had been through.
But sometimes Logan did want me to punch some senses into him and stop being so damn stubborn about everything. I also liked all the side characters that were added to the mix, especially Aeden & Kade. I desperately hope I get to read their happy ever after love story too. If anyone deserves a happy ending,it's them. However I am very curious as to what made Kade cruel the way he is.
Dear author, please hear my plea and give me a story of them, they deserve it! :D
All it all, this story also deals with mature content and gets serious at times, I still found it unable to stop reading.
So thanks to the author for reaching out to me with this wonderful book and giving me a opportunity to read and review it.

REVIEW

*May contain spoilers *

This is the second book in this series and oh, boy is it good. We get Tessa who is dealing with so much and the spirit assigned to her is Logan a broody man. Logan is punished many times because he just refuses to do what is expected of him and he prefers life in the Void. Tessa finally begins asking for wishes.
And her wishes bring so much more.

The author has given us so much in this book. We get action, depth, and the romance well it is a bit different and slow to grow but it is there.
I do believe this book could be read as a stand-alone but I would suggest starting with book one.

I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review.

This is book two yet I had no trouble following the story line. It felt like a standalone read. Two broken spirits each with their own deep dark history. They need each other yet at the same time she disappears into her own head while he flees to the void. There is a gradual shift in Tessa throughout the story as she learns to live instead of just exist. I was very surprised and emotional when I finally discovered Logan's secret. This is a very deep and almost sad read. These two were exactly what each other needed to learn to live. You will feel sympathy, sorrow, and sensuality throughout their experience. I became very mellow and thoughtful when I finished reading this emotional story. I had to take a moment to feel it all. I was given this story for an honest review and this is mine.

I enjoyed reading this book quite a bit. I found the story charming. Two miserable people find one another whose bad lots in life manage to somehow heal one another. Logan and Tessa's love story was captivating because throughout the story you kind of wondered if it was really going to happen.

The only complaints I had about the book is that there were frequent sentences that just disappeared or repeated themselves. Also I just don't care much for an abundance of sex scenes as I have always felt a good book can shine through without having to sell steamy sex scenes to entice the reader, but that is just my preference. Overall I highly recommend giving this book a read
