The Force already has awakened for one longtime fan of the Star Wars franchise.
Following a social media campaign that gained the name #ForceForDaniel, Daniel Fleetwood — a 32-year-old man given two months to live in July after being diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma — was able to watch an unfinished cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The campaign, launched on Twitter by his wife, Ashley, last month, recently had gained the attention of stars from the movie, with both Mark Hamill and John Boyega retweeting pleas to Disney, Lucasfilm and director J.J. Abrams to make the private screening happen.
Ashley revealed Thursday on Facebook that Daniel’s dream had come true, thanking Abrams, Disney and Lucasfilm for making it happen. That message was shared on Twitter by Hamill himself, who added his own thanks:
I just read this and am elated for Daniel & his family! Thanks to the powers-that-be for making his dream come true. https://t.co/ImiAdyBxf8

It’s the second time Abrams has been involved in this type of scenario; in 2013, the director facilitated an early screening of Star Trek Into Darkness for Daniel Craft, who had terminal cancer, just days before Craft’s death.
