Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up is a serious blast from the past. It was pretty fun being able to see cartoons from when I was a kid in comic book form coming out again. This particular episode has the Powerpuff girls, Dexter and Courage the Cowardly Dog, who was my favorite growing up. Plus, a ton more characters pop up throughout the comic and help the girls on their mission.

Keep in mind when reading it does jump around a little bit with the dimensional travel, and the couple page breaks featuring "new" material for one particular character. Overall, it's easy to follow and very cute to read. All the pictures are very colorful and pop out on screen. Most of the word bubbles are bigger and in bold print so it's easy to read as well. It's great for kids probably 9+ or nostalgic adults. :)

I received this comic through NetGalley.

I read another book in this series last year: Super Secret Crisis War. And since the Powerpuff Girls always were my favourite Cartoon Network series, I was glad to see they made a sequel.

I enjoyed this story even more (I always like the nostalgic feeling I get from reading it, it's a trip down memory lane for me) but the story in this one was more coherent and there was a better explanation for there being different universes with different drawing styles. All the favourite characters make their appearances but the focus lays on the Powerpuff Girls and Dexter and his sister.

I would like to read more of their joint adventures!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

A nice little crossover of some of my favorite cartoons, Dexter and Dee Dee from Dexter's Lab, Courage the cowardly dog, Cow & Chicken (I believe) and of course the powerpuff girls. If You loved those cartoons, You should definitely check this out. It was a nice taste of nostalgia for me.

Remember my Super Secret Crisis War review? Well I liked that one so obviously I knew I HAD to read Super Smash-Up when it popped up in my NetGalley Graphic Novels list.

In Super Secret Crisis War, Aku (the demon in Samurai Jack) created the League of Extraordinary Villains, joined by Mandark, Mojo-Jojo and the bad guy from Ben 10. Their plan is to rule the worlds where the characters from Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack and Ed, Edd & Eddy live in - or destroy them if the heroes won't cooperate.

In Super Smash-Up, Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup together with Professor Utonium make a visit to Dexter's Laboratory, bringing him a sample of Chemical X for him to test it. While Dexter and the Professor are engaged in scientific discussions, the Powerpuff Girls meet Dee Dee, who does what Dee Dee does best: she does a little number of ballet, trips and meets Chemical X, which turns her into a monster. And because this is not enough chaos, she starts traveling to other cartoon universes, while the Powerpuff Girls are looking for her to get her back to normal and home. This is a great opportunity for us to be nostalgic about Courage The Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and Camp Lazlo. I don't know about you, but I grew up with this cartoons and crossover episodes were the best thing ever.

So yeah, the story IS predictable, especially if you are so accustomed to these characters as I am, but it still is fun to read. There was one thing which bugged me however, a scene in which the parents in Cow and Chicken tell them to go with strangers if they offer them money. Now I don't remember if this is how they were in the cartoon, but in any case, considering the fact that this could get into the hands of kids who aren't old enough to judge on their own, a warning on the bottom of the page at least would've been a great idea.

'Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up' is a Cartoon Network crossover graphic novel featuring the Powerpuff Girls front and center and characters from Dexter's Laboratory, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

When the Powerpuff Girls get to visit Dexter's Laboratory and learn about his work in multiple universes, things go awry when his sister Dee Dee accidentally triggers the invention and disappears into a multiple world. This sends the Powerpuff Girls chasing her to try to bring her back. They cross paths, and worlds, with a variety of characters, some more helpful than others. Every issue has a short feature starring just one of the crossover properties.

A lot of the fun of multi-universe crossovers like this is seeing how the characters interact. It's great to see all these characters together. Since they are no longer on the air, it's a fun romp down memory lane. I think I liked the more recent Cartoon Network Super Secret Crisis War a bit better, but this one features a couple of my favorite cartoon series, so I enjoyed it.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

A good follow up of the previous crossover however it still suffers from the previous series faults which is that it just happens to fast. Honestly I wished the series was just a little longer. Some of the interactions are pretty funny like Bubbles and Courage. Also seeing the girls in Fosters was fun but just needed to be longer.

I really liked how they incorporated multiple 90’s Cartoon Network characters into the same plot; a very cool, nostalgic read and lots of fun!

Reading this comic was like stepping through a world directly to my childhood.

This smash-up was as unusual and exciting as that time Timmy Turner (The Fairly Odd Parents) and Jimmy Neutron (Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius) switched universes, or that time Hannah Montana and That's So Raven were in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

We have that the Professor and the Powerpuff Girls travel through a portal to Dexter's Laboratory where he presents one of his inventions which enables communication with other universes, and other science things. As luck would have it, as Dee Dee is showing the girls a ballerina dance, she gets soaked with the Chemical X and thus becomes a monster. In the whole panic, she jumps into one of the portals. It becomes then the mission of the Girls to find her through various dimensions before she causes extreme chaos and destroys the fabric of time and space.

I got to see all of my favorite Cartoon Network shows here... interacting with each other. About dimensional travel. Can this get more awesome?!

The pages were full of color, or almost devoid of them, depending on what dimension they were in. There was Courage the Cowardly Dog that thinks these Powerpuff Girls are aliens to kill him, then there's Cow and Chicken (which I don't enjoy nowadays much but meh), there was also Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Camp Laslo. Between each dimensional jump (chapters) there was a short story of each universe where we had stories of these characters mentioned, plus some other cameos like Billy and Mandy.

Man, you wouldn't believe the level of fangirling I went through when I saw all that.

So... this review is completely unnecessary. Love some late 90's and early 00's Cartoon Networks shows? This is definitely for you. And even if you've never seen those shows, you'll probably still enjoy this because it has humor, adventure, ridiculous moments that you'll question just how you or others liked that as kids, and amazing art.

GIF Overview:

All normal until I see...

Until I see Dexter...

With all the characters, and Mojo Jojo <3

With the plot and how it all connects with so many characters...

Seeing it end...

Running to get more!

Received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This was a great and fun book, and it is kind of a sequel to the Super Secret Crisis War. You can read them separately, but you might be confused as to how the girls know Dexter, and what happened that he granted them a tour through his laboratory (something he doesn't do for just everyone).

Most of the book took place in Townsville, but you can also find the girls on their quest to find DeeDee in the Cow & Chicken world, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends world, Courage the Cowardly Dog world and various others, there are also other worlds that we don't visit, but which we do see pop up. While the story seems a bit random at times, it is all connected to one thing: DeeDee's rampage and that thanks to her the Dimensions are shifting. Though the later part also focusses on something different, which was nice. I was thinking it would end when they found DeeDee, but there is a little twist (well... twist? I think most can see it coming) at the end. Really appreciated, especially considering this story mostly took place in Townsville.

Most of the book was a big nostalgia trip, however I never really cared about Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and I don't know anything about that camp (not sure what the name was) world. But for most I was delighted to see old characters come to life again. Only on the one hand, I was delighted to see all these worlds, but on the other hand, I would have liked to see Bravo or the Eds.
My favourite world? Courage! I loved that cartoon (even though it was highly weird) and I was happy to see Courage being Courage again. Scared about everything (and with good reason) as always.

The story was really fun and I was just cheering for the girls (and Dexter and the Professor) to find DeeDee. It was hilarious to see everyone's reaction to the girls, especially since they fly/float and generally people don't just do that.

The art is really colourful and fun, and it really captures the characters as I know them. I don't know the illustrators (most sites just seem to list Various), but they did a great job.

I do hope we will get another book in this "series", since I just love all the cross-overs that are happening in this series. Also I am really delighted that this one was way better than the first one, I was kind of worried I would also not like this one, but thankfully, this one was actually quite good.

I would recommend this one to people, kids will like it, and I am sure adults like me will love it for the nostalgia it brings.

Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up! is a graphic novel that is sure to transfer you back in time. I was so happy to find out that it includes so many characters from many of the most beloved Cartoon Network series, like Dexter, Courage, and Cow and Chicken. Between the main story there were a few short stories with Courage the Cowardly Dog, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, a well as a very special Mojo Jojo story and one with Dexter and Dee Dee. Finally, there is also a small cameo from The Justice Friends. The result is this crazy and totally hilarious graphic novel!

The story isn't the most original one, but it's never dull. The Powerpuff Girls visit Dexter's laboratory, in order to get a tour in exchange for a sample of the famous Chemical X. But Dexter's sister as usual creates a small accident and the Chemical X falls on her. As a result she turns into a monster and runs into a completely other universe. So, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup follow Dee Dee, in order to save the multiverse from the upcoming chaos. The fact that all those characters don't exist on the same universe, and that Dexter is trying to create a multiverse transporter in order for them to communicate, really was something that fascinated me. It was exciting to try to guess in which universe they were heading next.

Dexter and Powerpuff Girls is a great combination. Adorable super hero girls, along with a boy genius. What could possibly go wrong? Along with Professor Utonium, Dee Dee and Mojo Jojo as the villain the result could never be boring. But why do all the evil ones have the self-destruction button placed in such an obvious place?

I absolutely loved Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up. The story follows the Powerpuff Girls and Professor Utonium who take a tour of Dexter's Laboratory. Of course Dexter's sister DeeDee is always lurking around nearby to accidentally cause trouble. DeeDee ends up on a multi-dimensional adventure taking her to other Cartoon Network shows and it's up to the Powerpuff Girls and Dexter to track her down and bring her back.

Most of the shows included in this graphic novel I watched as a child which I like to refer to as "the glory days of Cartoon Network". It was great to go back and remember the shows, a few of which I had forgotten about. I can wrap this review up into one word for me, childhood.

The art work was so colorful and beautiful and really reflected the styles of the shows involved.

It was a really fun read and I think anyone would like it. Whether you are like me, a young adult still in the stages between growing up and actually being an adult, or a child yourself you will find this entertaining to read.

Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up
(I got this from NetGalley for an honest review)
I love the Powerpuff Girls! This book isn’t just about the Powerpuff it’s them and other Cartoon Netword shows. This story starts with the Powerpuff Girls, they go to Dexter’s Laboratory and then into more shows that follow a plot. So shows has theirs plot but most of them are all looped together to make one plot. The main plot of the story it quite simple it’s the Powerpuff Girls are helping Dexter find Dee Dee. The pages are filled classic character and amazing art. I enjoyed reading this, it reminded me of all the shows I watch growing up. It only to me one day to read this. If you like the classic Cartoon Network shows this is the book for you!

What a fun adventure of the powerpuff girls! Different universes combine to make an exciting adventure that will keep, you hoping there is more on the way. Expect characters from Dexter's Lab, Bill and Mandy, Cow and Chicken, and Courage, the cowardly dog ( my personal fav). In between the parts of the main story there are little stories featuring the other universes. This title is still good even if you aren't familiar with these characters, but it may get you excited to look for more from them!

My two sons grew up watching The Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Lab and Courage the Cowardly Dog. When my youngest son had to write a report in first grade about what he'd like to do to help the world, he said, "I'd like to be a super hero, so I can save the world."

These cartoons were always fun to watch; the bad guys would never win. I loved that they came out with a book including so many of these shows, and they read like the show. Not one detail that I can think of is missing in the translation.

This is a great book for children who like superheros and comic books.
