Thruway Authority Announces New Bridge Maintenance Building to Be Constructed in Tarrytown

The new facility will house bridge crews and administration.

A state-of-the-art bridge maintenance building will be built to take care of the new three-mile crossing.

The Thruway Authority announced that the final phase of demolition is clearing the way for construction to begin.

The 26,000-square-foot structure will be located at 333 South Broadway in Tarrytown and will house Thruway personnel including administration, emergency response, mechanics, welders, painters, electricians and dock crews.

The new three-mile crossing will carry billions of vehicles over the Hudson River during the next 100 years, according to the Thruway Authority.

The building is designed to facilitate immediately access to the bridge, which will decrease response time.

The garage bays and highway equipement will face the Thruway and emergency crews will be able to quickly respond to vehicle breakdowns.

Designed to be LEED certifiable, the building will reduce water use, efficiently regulate indoor temperatures and reduce energy with automatic lighting.

Tappan Zee Constructors LLC will begin construction after a retired maintenance building in Tarrytown is torn down. Bridge maintenance teams and state police relocated from that building in 2014 to a temporary home near Exit 12 in West Nyack.
