Ben Affleck will direct and star in a new "standalone" Batman movie, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced at this year's CinemaCon. Tsujihara said first that the company was "working with" Affleck on the upcoming movie, but his involvement as director was later confirmed by a press release from Warner Bros. Reports last year indicated that Affleck — fresh off his first attempt at Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman — would also direct and co-write a solo Batman picture with help from DC Comics' chief creative mind, Geoff Johns.

No details were given on production schedule, but a new Batman could be one of the two as-yet untitled DC movies already given a release date, slotted in around Wonder Woman, Aquaman, two Justice League films, and others as the company plans the expansion of its cinematic universe — if so, expect the Batfleck to return on either October 5th, 2018, or November 1st, 2019. After the dreary Batman v Superman drew criticism for director Zack Snyder, Affleck could be a step in the right direction for DC fans, having already proved himself more than capable behind the camera — the Batman actor's Argo won the Oscar for best picture in 2012.

Update April 12th, 10:35PM ET: Warner Bros. confirms that Affleck is indeed directing.
