AKP Declining Proposal of Setting Up Commission On Child Abuse Steps Back

 AKP (Justice and Development Party) Group Deputy Chair Naci Bostancı has announced that a motion on setting up investigation commission on child abuse would be submitted at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) plenum on the basis of an agreement reached with CHP (Republican People’s Party), HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) and MHP (National Movement Party).

According to the agreement, an investigation commission to child abuse would be set up under the umbrella of the Parliament through a joint motion submitted by the above mentioned parties.

MHP’s proposal of setting up a commission for investigating and preventing child abuse had been rejected with votes of AKP MPs yesterday (March 23).

Parliament News had relayed the talks in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) plenum rejecting the proposal as follows:

CHP Bursa MP Lale Karabıyık taking the floor had reminded that they had conducted research in Karaman earlier.  

Pointing out that legal entities and natural persons were not allowed to open dorms and such at primary and secondary school level, Karabıyık had noted that these illegal places could not be inspected.  

“We have met with the Governor, Prosecutor and National Education Director in Karaman, and none of them could provide us information on the house or its owners. Yet the files contain testaments from the children. They themselves emphasize that it [the house] belongs to KAİMDER (Karabük Religious Vocational High School Alumni Association) and Ensar foundation.

Karabıyık had expressed; “Let us please put our hands on our hearts and protect children and not foundations”.

Ensar Foundation, claimed to be associated with the governing party AKP is being accused of the rape cases of 10 children.

Minister of Family and Social Policies, Sema Ramazanoğlu had earlier said on the issue, “Running into an incident like this just for once cannot be a reason to give bad name an institute which has come to the forefront with its services”, in response to question as to Ensar Foundation whose teacher is accused of raping 10 children which drew criticism.
