Directed by celebrated documentarian Alex Gibney and based on Lawrence Wright’s book of the same name, the doc is a damning exposé featuring a number of disturbing revelations coming from former members of the Church of Scientology. After premiering to enormous crowds and great critical acclaim at Sundance in January, the film had a limited theatrical run and then aired on HBO in March. The Church has vehemently denied the film’s accusations, and many of its famous members have spoken out against the doc as well. The film will have its limited re-release on Sept. 25. •Going Clear on pace to be HBO’s second-most-watched documentary •Scientology doc Going Clear airing Sunday on HBO •Church of Scientology sets up online response to Going Clear doc
