The Merc with the Mouth is finally speaking. After a cameo appearance in the trailer for Fantastic Four and even a characteristically perverse trailer for a trailer, Deadpool‘s first — yes, you got it — trailer has finally dropped. See the red band trailer above.

The trailer, which screened at Comic-Con this summer, sees Ryan Reynolds as the foul-mouthed Marvel hero who, after discovering he has terminal cancer, agrees to be part of an experiment that endows him with superhuman regenerative abilities. What stands out in the teaser is the R-rated sense of humor and general meta commentary on Deadpool (a line comparing his face to an avocado is particularly salty).

Deadpool fever is rising hotter and redder than the foul-mouthed superhero’s crimson mask. The only thing disappointing Deadpool fans these days is that they have to wait a whole six months—it opens Feb. 12, 2016—to actually see the damn thing.

Reynolds is fulfilling a decade-long dream by finally playing Deadpool on the big screen, on his own terms. The actor appeared as a sanitized version of the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Discussing the Deadpool movie with EW in June, Reynolds said, “I was driving around New York recently and I saw three or four different people wearing Deadpool paraphernalia. And I just thought that was crazy considering that this is a character that’s never had a feature film and yet still is in the zeitgeist in that way. It was just that flash of red, and my eyes went to it. I know it’s a risk, but I trust that audiences will see that red and want to snatch it up. I mean, who doesn’t love a morally flexible red-suited freak show?”
