Moo-q Tells You What Time of Day Your Brain Works Best

iPhone: We track just about everything these days, why not add our brains to the list? Your cognitive function works differently throughout the day, and moo-q will tell you when your brainpower is at its best. It’ll also try to find a link between your mood and your cognitive skills.

When you download the app, you tell it how often and during what hours of the day you want it to send you alerts. From there, the app will periodically notify you, asking how you’re feeling, and you’ll get a series of tests to perform.

It’s similar to MoodPanda, because it does track your mood, too. But with this app, your speed and memory are also being studied—literally. Before you use the app, you have to consent to have your results tracked for a University of London research project. They describe the project via their site:

We are particularly interested in how mood changes are related to within-person differences in cognitive function.

To test if there is a systematic association between mood and cognitive function, we have run a large lab-based study with 100 people who completed a battery of cognitive tests each day on five consecutive days. Based on this data, we have developed an iPhone application for everybody to use.

And the tests aren’t easy. They involve memorizing a series of numbers and then adding up a series of numbers. Of course, they’re meant to be difficult so the app can accurately measure your brain function.

After completing these tests five times, you’ll get a simple chart of your mood and brainpower and how they correspond. You don’t have to register with an email address or anything to use the app, and they explain that your data is confidential.

You can read more about how they use your data here, and check the app out for yourself at the link below.
