After a disastrous 2015 season, McLaren is ready to give it another go with their innovative MP4-31 challenger.

Engine supplier Honda claims the new RA616H power unit is significantly improved.

Solving their power unit issues was arguably their main concern last year, in which they finished 9th in the Constructors’ Standings.

As Honda’s chief officer of Motorsport Yasuhisa Arai points out, the team has learned from the previous season, making changes “to the compressor and other hardware of the power unit during the break, maturing our overall concept from last year. Our focus will be to test the car’s balance with the new chassis and power unit, and specifically the ERS direction during the eight days of winter testing.”

Fernando Alonso even went out to praise the new car’s appearance, saying that the aero package “shows fantastic attention to detail. The whole car is beautiful in fact – it’s particularly nicely packaged from an aerodynamic point of view as I say – and I’m 100% ready for the challenge ahead.”
