Saoirse Ronan will head from Brooklyn to the Dorset coast as the star of the upcoming big screen adaptation of Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach. The two-time Oscar nominee will play female lead Florence in the film, EW confirmed Wednesday.

McEwan’s novel, set in 1962 England, tells the story of Florence and husband, Edward, starting with the unspoken expectation of their marital duties that looms on their wedding night. Little did either party know at the time, but those unsuppressed anxieties will continue to plague their lives for years after “I do.”

The film adaptation comes courtesy of Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, each of whom had a hand in producing Carol. Dominic Cooke (The Crown Hollow) will direct. Production on On Chesil Beach is slated to begin filming this fall in time for a 2017 release.
