Spider-Man: Homecoming May Cast Donald Glover, Here's What We Know

Donald Glover

Once upon a time, Community co-star and extremely funny comedian Donald Glover harbored a dream of playing Spider-Man. When Sony flirted with the idea of recasting the superhero role after Andrew Garfield's two efforts, fans (and Glover himself) made a strong push to get Glover in the suit. Well, he won't play Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel and Sony co-production Spider-Man: Homecoming... but he will play SOMEONE in the film.

Donald Glover is in talks to join the ensemble of Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to Deadline. The solo, standalone Spider-Man movie is coming together quickly, for a Summer 2016 shoot. Tom Holland has been tapped to lead the film as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Spider-Man. Jon Watts is directing the film, with Marisa Tomei -- also introduced in Captain America: Civil War -- playing Peter's Aunt May.

At the moment, we don't know who Donald Glover will play in the movie, as the trade says details on his character are being kept under wraps. So let's make a few deductions. They are going younger with this Spider-Man, asking Tom Holland to play close to his age (he's 19, going on 20) and make Peter Parker a high school student. The supporting cast, so far, has been made up of younger actors, from Disney Channel vet Zendaya to Michael Barbieri. Seeing as how Donald Glover is 32, he won't be one of Peter's classmates. Could he be a teacher at Peter's school?

If they wanted to think outside the box, Donald Glover could fill a few more fascinating roles in the Spider-Man universe. He could be playing J. Jonah Jameson, if they really wanted to shake things up by changing the race of the traditionally Caucasian character. He might be playing a villain. We have been tracking the rumors that Michael Keaton would be up to play the Vulture in the movie, but recent reports also said that the Vulture would have help from The Tinkerer -- who might even construct the Vulture's wings from Chitauri tech left in NYC during the Avengers invasion. Could Glover be playing the Tinkerer?

Spider-Man

As of right now, Spider-Man: Homecoming is putting together its cast and preparing to shoot. It's setting up shop in Atlanta, and will film for the rest of this year, leading into a July 7, 2017 release date. It will be the second Marvel movie released next year, after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters in May. Who do you think Donald Glover is being tapped to play in this new universe? And are you happy Glover's finally in the MCU?
