Demi Lovato makes call on Twitter to help 'voiceless women be heard'

Demi Lovato says women being shut down and not believed after speaking out happens “way too often” and that she’s “ready for women to be taken just as seriously as men.”

In a series of tweets posted early Sunday morning, the singer issued a call to help “voiceless women be heard.”

“Someone tell me why anyone would ever feel brave enough to come forward if they are most likely to be ignored or called a liar?” Lovato asked. “I’m also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women’s rights.”

“Women empowerment is speaking up for other women even when it’s something uncomfortable to speak up about,” she added. “Women empowerment is taking action now, not when it’s convenient.”

Lovato didn’t say what prompted her messages, but they came as other stars have voiced their support for Kesha. A judge declared Friday that the singer can’t escape her recording contract with producer Dr. Luke, whom she claims sexually assaulted her.

On Saturday, Lovato tweeted a message to Kesha, saying, “This is only gonna make you stronger, you brave and beautiful girl. Prayers are with you.”
