Food Wars! Anime's 2nd Season, OVA Previewed in Videos

posted on by Kyle Hallmark
New season will premiere in July

The official website of the Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma anime series began streaming a promotional video on Sunday for the show's second season, titled Shokugeki no Sōma: Ni no Sara (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate). The video confirms that the main cast and staff from the first season will reprise their roles in the sequel, and reveals that the new season will premiere in July.

The video starts with the text, "The Jewel Generation, the person who stands at the summit is...." The video then highlights the new season's main characters, and ends with Sōma Yukihira saying "I'm going to quit cooking."

The second season's cast so far includes:

Yoshitomo Yonetani (Gaogaigar, Betterman) is directing the anime at J.C. Staff. Shogo Yasukawa (Terraformars, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Invaders of the Rokujyōma!?) is in charge of the series' scripts, and Tomoyuki Shitaya (Bakuman, BlazBlue Alter Memory, Hatsukoi Limited) is designing the characters. Jin Aketagawa is the sound director, and Tatsuya Katou (Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club, Medaka Box) is composing the soundtrack.

The anime's official website also began streaming a preview video on Sunday for an original anime DVD that will be bundled with the manga's 19th volume.

The original anime will follow Sōma and his friends on a short summer vacation before the Autumn Elections. The anime will be 25 minutes long and will ship on July 4.

The anime adapts Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma manga. The first anime season aired for 24 episodes from April to September. Crunchyroll streamed the first anime adaptation as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for North America.

The manga centers on Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.
