Authorities say Zillah orchard workers injured in 'negligent' shooting

ZILLAH, Wash.--Yakima County Sheriffs say five orchard workers in Zillah were injured due to a negligent shooting Sunday.

Authorities say it happened around 12:25 p.m. in the 2900 block of Lucy Lane.

They say an unknown person or persons shot a shotgun from a canal about 100 yards from the workers.

Deputies say because of large trees in the area, the victims would not have been seen by the person who shot the gun.

The five workers suffered minor injuries to their lower bodies and none are considered serious says deputies.

No suspects were witnesses were located during a search of the area
