    CLOSING BELL: Sensex climbs 178 points, Nifty50 above 7,000 post Economic Survey; CIL, SBI surge 4% each; Bajaj Auto slips 3%.

    BSE metals index rises 1.66 per cent, bankex and realty index gain 1.5 per cent, power index up 0.9 per cent, oil & gas index climbs 0.3 per cent.

    @3.00 PM: Milind Barve, HDFC AMC: If you are a little aggressive and if you believe that a recovery is going to be faster than slower, you could finish off your investing in six months or one year and if not, you can elongate the period of your investment or entering the market over one to two years.

    @2.35 PM: Shares of NTPC surged up to 3 per cent after Life Insurance Corporation increased its stake in the 's largest power producer by 3.90 per cent after buying 32.15 crore shares in the open market. LIC, which had 9.08 per cent stake earlier, hiked its shareholding in the company to 12.98 per cent by buying shares between July 25, 2014, and February 24, 2016, NTPC said in a filing to the BSE.

    @2.10 PM: Ritika Mankar Mukherjee, Senior Economist, Ambit Capital: We disagree with not just with the 'level' of the GDP forecast made by the economic survey, but we also disagree with the 'direction of growth' that the survey is implying. This is because we expect GDP growth rate to be the same in 2017 versus 2016 and an acceleration is completely ruled out, given the broken banking system in India and the building stress in the infrastructure sector.

    @12.42 PM: Urea to be sold at market prices: large farmers may have to buy urea at market prices, says the economic survey . The survey also points out to the need for reasonable taxation for better-off farmers. “Must bring urea under nutrient-based subsidy program,” the survey adds. Fertiliser stocks are trading higher by 9 per cent on the BSE.

    @12.02 PM: Shares of surge over 3 per cent following Rail Budget annoucements. Also, the company has announced that planning to increase its coal production to 1,000 million tonne in the next four years through the use of latest environment-friendly technologies. The estimated production planned by CIL during 2019-20 is 908.10 million tonnes.

    @10.33 AM: The banking counters on Dalal Street on Friday cheered the Reserve Bank of India’s latest move to provide some relief on the stressed loan front. BSE Bankex surged up to one per cent. The Nifty PSU Bank index, also, gained 1.26 per cent in morning trade.

    Shares of State Bank of India, Axis Bank, IDBI Bank, IndusInd Bank and Bank of Baroda traded higher by as much as 2 per cent.

    @9.39 AM: Adani Ports (up 2 per cent), L&T (up 1.9 per cent), SBI (up 1.7 per cent), Axis Bank (up 1.4 per cent), and M&M (up 1.4 per cent), were the major Sensex gainers.

    ICICI Bank (down 0.4 per cent), and Bharti Airtel (down 0.34 per cent) were the major Sensex gainers.

    @9.26 AM: The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.90 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.66 per cent higher.

    @9.20 AM: The S&P BSE Sensex surged over 200 points in morning trade ahead of Economic Survey. The rally in the index was led by gains in Infosys, L&T, Sun Pharma, HDFC, and Tata Motors.

    The Nifty50 was trading near its crucial level of 7050 supported by gains in power, metal, banks, auto, oil & gas, and realty stocks.

    @9.00 AM: The domestic equity benchmark is likely to open on a positive note on Friday, tracking a smart rally in US stocks in overnight trade after Venezuela reaffirmed a mid-March meeting with three other oil producers -- Saudi Arabia, Russia and Qatar -- to stabilise falling crude prices.
