Escudero leads VP race; Marcos takes Metro Manila

Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero's popularity with voters remains at an all-time high according to the latest survey by pollster Pulse Asia.

Escudero, an independent candidate for Vice President and runningmate of Sen. Grace Poe, topped the survey, garnering 33 percent.

A distant second was Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with 23 percent while Camarines Sur Rep. Maria Leonor Robredo and Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano are statistically tied for third with 18 percent and 14 percent respectively.

Senators Gregorio Honasan (5%) and Antonio Trillanes IV (4%) received single-digit voter preferences.

Three percent of the respondents said they have no preference for any of the listed vice presidential candidates.

Chiz takes Luzon, Visayas; Bongbong gets Metro

Much like his running mate, Senator Grace Poe, Escudero took the lead in Luzon (37%) and Class D (34%) and also attained the same popularity with Class E (34%).

Voters in Metro Manila, however, were more inclined to vote for Marcos (33%), who was also favored by Classes ABC (28%) over Escudero (24%), Robredo (21%), and Cayetano (17%).

Escudero regained his lead in the Visayas, where his greatest contender is Robredo (32% versus 25%), and in Mindanao, pitting him against Cayetano (29% versus 22%).

None of the vice presidential marked a significant change in voter preference from December 2015 to January 2016, though Escudero and Robredo raked in +4 percentage points nationally.

Pulse Asia accounted for a ± 2% error margin at the 95% confidence level, with distribution of error margins at the 95% confidence level in the following areas: ± 6% for Metro Manila, ± 3% for the rest of Luzon, and ± 5% for Visayas and Mindanao.

Fieldwork for the survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,800 registered voters aged 18 and above from January 24 – 28, 2016. — APG, GMA News
