Foojee’s Mac and iOS setups

Every week we post a new interview with someone about what software they use on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. We do these interviews because not only are they fun, but a glimpse into what tools someone uses and how they use those tools can spark our imagination and give us an idea or insight into how we can do things better.

New setup interviews are posted every Monday; follow us on RSS or Twitter to stay up to date.

Who are you and what do you do?

We are Foojee! Foojee is a team of Apple Consultants operating out of Atlanta and Nashville. We help organizations and schools build rock-solid solutions with their Apple IT.

What is your current setup?

Everyone on the team has a MacBook Pro with Retina display except Daniel (our marketing guy) who has the new Space Gray MacBook.

Where can we find your OS X wallpaper?

If it’s not a picture of our kids and/or dogs, then most of us use interfacelift.com or unsplash.com.

What software do you use and for what do you use it?

Every team member has a set a tools that we use to get the job done effectively and efficiently.

  • Email: A few of us bounce back and forth between Apple Mail and Airmail.
  • At Foojee, we are all Basecampers for life! We use this for all of our project management craziness.
  • For remote support, we use Bomgar. This helps us dial in to clients’ machines and tackle the issue as soon as possible.
  • Bria is a soft-phone client. Because who needs desk phones anyways?
  • Bushel — Every legitimate team needs a reliable MDM (Mobile Device Management).
  • Slack — The company’s messaging client. It SIGNIFICANTLY cuts down on small/pesky emails.
  • Crashplan Pro-E. — a dependable offsite backup solution.
  • The rest of our tools are web-based: Google Apps, Zendesk, AutoTask, etc.

How would your ideal setup look and function?

We’d all love a sexy Thunderbolt display to make working remotely that much better. Magic Trackpad all the way! Maybe a few pairs of the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 to provide some tunes to keep us going throughout the day. Or, if we’re dreaming…an iMac Retina 5K.

What iPhone do you have?

Everyone on the Foojee team currently has an iPhone 6 or 6+, but that will surely change with the recent release of the 6s.

What apps do you use the most, and why?

  • Slack — It makes working remotely or on the go much simpler, especially when tricky situations and questions arise with clients.
  • Instagram — It’s fun and simple to use. Instagram doesn’t have the clutter and busy feel of Facebook or Twitter at this point. Not to mention, our Instagram feed has been pretty on point since we launched the account.
  • Dropbox — Allows us to have access to our clients’ data whenever and whereever we may need it. This comes in handy when we are on-site with clients and they’ve forgotten an obscure password, but we’ve got it saved to a secure Dropbox account.

Which app could you not live without?

Messages and/or Mail – These are essential for not only business, but life in general. What would we do without them?

Which iPad do you have?

We have a number of generations represented among our team from the iPad 2, 3, mini and iPad Air.

How are you using your iPad on a daily basis?

That’s a loaded question. One of our guys uses his iPad purely to entertain and distract his kids. Another uses it for reading books, another for social media and news, while the other guy uses it to lay in bed and watch Netflix. Ah, the good life.

What apps do you use the most, and why?

Kindle — Who doesn’t love a good book, especially when it costs significantly less than the audio or print versions?
News — The iOS 9 revamp of Newsstand (now called News) is actually pretty good. It has its shortcomings as does any new software, but we’re excited to see where Apple takes the development of this particular app.
Netflix — Does this one even need an explanation?

Which app could you not live without?

This is a tough question because everyone on our team would answer differently. One person might say games to keep the kids occupied while paying bills, another would say Netflix because there is no TV in his bedroom, and the other would say Kindle because of how much he enjoys reading. To each his own!
