Paul Walker: Father sues Porsche for wrongful death, negligence

Almost two years after Paul Walker’s death in a car crash in Santa Clarita, California, the actor’s father has sued Porsche for wrongful death and negligence.

In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday and obtained by EW, Paul William Walker III says the Porsche Carrera GT that his son was riding in lacked safety features which could have saved his life. Walker III alleges Porsche knew the model had a history of instability and control issues, and seeks unspecified damages.

Paul Walker was sitting in the passenger seat when the car his friend Roger Rodas was driving crashed into a tree and burst into flames. Both men died in the crash: Paul Walker was 40, while Rodas was 38.

According to the AP, Rodas’ widow, Kristine, also filed a lawsuit for wrongful death on Wednesday. The lawsuits follow a similar wrongful death lawuit filed by Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, in September.

The company responded to Meadow Walker’s lawsuit in November, saying Paul Walker “knowingly and voluntarily assumed all risk, perils and danger in respect to the use of the subject 2005 Carrera GT, that the perils, risk and dangers were open and obvious and known to him, and that he chose to conduct himself in a manner as to expose himself to such perils, dangers and risks, thus assuming all the risks involved in using the vehicle.”

A representative for Porsche did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
