Police: 7 teens arrested in multiple fights at Hemingway High School

HEMINGWAY, SC (WCSC) - Seven high school students have been arrested after police responded to multiple fights in progress at Hemingway High School.

Police responded to the school at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Hemingway Police Inv. Alex Edwards.

The students, all 17 or older, were transported to the Williamsburg County Detention Center, while an additional 10 juveniles were detained and later released to the custody of their parents or guardians, Edwards said.

Hemingway Police Chief Bryan Todd said he has never seen anything like it in his 25 years in law enforcement.

The Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Probation Pardon and Parole Services, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Johnsonville Police Department, Williamsburg County Fire Department, and Williamsburg County E.M.S. responded to the scene.

No one was seriously injured during the fights, police say.

The Hemingway Police Department is working with the Williamsburg County School District to insure another incident like this does not occur again, Edwards said.
