Zika virus scaring guests away from billionaire’s engagement bash

New York socialites were due to flock to Cartagena, Colombia, this weekend for the engagement party for billionaire Alejandro Santo Domingo and Lady Charlotte Wellesley — but the Zika virus has some glossy guests in a panic.

Vogue contributing editor Lauren Santo Domingo, co-founder of online retailer Moda Operandi, and her husband, Andrés, are throwing a party this weekend for the couple, but a source tells us, “Some of their fashionable friends are trying to back out . . . because of Zika.”

Colombia’s 20,000 confirmed cases are second only to Brazil’s, according to a report. One doctor in Cartagena said he’s gone from three cases a year to three a day.

For more than a decade, Alejandro was the most eligible bachelor with the international jet set. British aristocrat Lady Charlotte is the daughter of the Duke of Wellington and works as a producer at Mario Testino’s London studio. Her cousin Sofia Wellesley is married to James Blunt.

Also expected is Monaco royal Andrea Casiraghi, who’s married to Tatiana Santo Domingo. Alejandro’s father, Julio Mario Santo Domingo, created a business empire from the family’s already sizeable banking and industrial holdings.
