MTV abandoned its scheduled programming on Thursday to honor Prince, who died Thursday in Chanhassen, Minnesota at the age of 57. The network, which originally planned to fill the afternoon with a block of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, instead chose to pay tribute to the late Grammy winner by airing his music videos.

“MTV is heartbroken and in utter disbelief at the news that the world has lost Prince Rogers Nelson so suddenly and so before his time,” reads a statement from the network. “Prince was a once-in-a-lifetime artist who transcended every medium and genre he touched and created music with a passion and individuality that inspired multiple generations. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, friends and millions of fans.”

Over the course of his illustrious career, Prince picked up multiple awards for his boundary-pushing visuals. In addition to the many Grammys to his name, the singer nabbed honors for Best Choreography in a Video for “Raspberry Beret,” Best Male Video and Best Stage Performance in a Video for “U Got the Look,” and Best Dance Video for “Cream” from MTV’s annual Video Music Awards.
