Faraday Future makes big promises at Nevada groundbreaking

Governor hearts this electric future.

Faraday Future is in love with Nevada, and Nevada loves the start-up electric car company right back. At a groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming $1 billion EV factory yesterday, state lawmakers fawned over the promises that Faraday has made - and the company restated the big plans it's ready to put into motion.

For example, Dag Reckhorn, Faraday's vice president of global manufacturing, said that Faraday will be hiring 4,500 people at the plant over the next ten years. Yes, the plans for the plant are "big and complicated," but the timeline is "aggressive." A traditional plant like this, Reckhorn said, would take four years to get up and running, but Faraday wants to make it happen in just two.

"This doesn't happen in other states, I promise you."- Nevada governor Brian Sandoval

Nevada governor Brian Sandoval echoed the love and speed themes. "A little over a year ago, none of us could have conceived or imagined this," he said. "It took this Nevada family, this Faraday family, to come together to make today a reality. This doesn't happen in other states, I promise you." Sandoval also said that Faraday will give a grant worth a million dollars a year to the Clark County School district for each of the next six years.

Clark County commission chairman Steve Sisolak said that the day marked a turning point for Nevada and guaranteed that the local laborers would bring the project in "on time and under budget."

Tom Wessner, Faraday's vice president of supply chain, actually offered a few specifics about the project, saying that over 90 percent of the 2,000 parts needed for the first vehicle are already sourced from "the best" Tier 1 suppliers, but most of the day was reserved for empty political speeches. If you'd like to watch for yourself, we've embedded the video above. There a lot of blank air captured as part of the livestream, so scroll ahead to minute 33.

The most interesting part of the video comes from a quick rendering tour of the upcoming factory (minute 40), since it includes a shot of three vehicles (as seen above). Wouldn't it be cool if these were based on the actual car that this whole dog and pony show was all about?

Breaking Ground on a Ground Breaking Vision
FF Kicks Off New Factory with Ceremonial Ground Breaking in North Las Vegas

Today at 2:00pm PST, we will be hosting a ceremonial ground breaking for our new world-class, connected manufacturing plant in North Las Vegas, NV.

We invite you to join us for a live stream of the event on our YouTube channel. Several FF executives will be there to discuss exactly what kind of facility we are planning to build.

Additionally, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee, and Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak will outline the factory's impact on the local and state economy. Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, Steve Hill of the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and several other community leaders and key elected officials from the region will also be in attendance.

Our $1 billion factory investment goes beyond assembly lines – this facility will be the formative breeding ground for our vision for future mobility.

We will be utilizing solar, wind, and geo-thermal energy to power this environmentally conscious endeavor. High-quality, sustainably sourced parts, shipped to this facility from Tier-1 suppliers all over the world, will be coalesced and crafted into our upcoming line of production vehicles.

At this factory, we will build our flagship production vehicle, construct a cooperative fleet aimed to pioneer a new model of car ownership, and strive to ultimately redefine our relationship with our automobiles.

"This first plant will be a truly modern workspace," stated Dag Reckhorn, FF's VP of Global Manufacturing, "offering a clean, open air environment, ergonomic arrangements, and an encouraged interactivity between employees and visitors. This will make for a brand new, cutting-edge west coast hub for the EV industry."

After the ceremonial ground breaking, construction will begin in less than a month's time. Hiring for the plant's eventual 4,500 positions is already underway. Visit our careers page for more information.

This is an ambitious undertaking, and one that typically takes four years to complete. We aim to complete it in two, while ensuring we take all the caution and care that a project of this magnitude deserves.
