Faraday Future is in love with Nevada, and Nevada loves the start-up electric car company right back. At a groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming $1 billion EV factory yesterday, state lawmakers fawned over the promises that Faraday has made - and the company restated the big plans it's ready to put into motion.
For example, Dag Reckhorn, Faraday's vice president of global manufacturing, said that Faraday will be hiring 4,500 people at the plant over the next ten years. Yes, the plans for the plant are "big and complicated," but the timeline is "aggressive." A traditional plant like this, Reckhorn said, would take four years to get up and running, but Faraday wants to make it happen in just two.
Clark County commission chairman Steve Sisolak said that the day marked a turning point for Nevada and guaranteed that the local laborers would bring the project in "on time and under budget."
Tom Wessner, Faraday's vice president of supply chain, actually offered a few specifics about the project, saying that over 90 percent of the 2,000 parts needed for the first vehicle are already sourced from "the best" Tier 1 suppliers, but most of the day was reserved for empty political speeches. "It took this Nevada family, this Faraday family, to come together to make today a reality. This doesn't happen in other states, I promise you." "This first plant will be a truly modern workspace," stated Dag Reckhorn, FF's VP of Global Manufacturing, "offering a clean, open air environment, ergonomic arrangements, and an encouraged interactivity between employees and visitors. This will make for a brand new, cutting-edge west coast hub for the EV industry."
