NORWALK, Iowa, March 24 (UPI) -- Police in Iowa were able to capture an escaped kangaroo that was being kept as a pet by a local homeowner.

Norwalk police shared a photo of the kangaroo taken from a Craigslist post and stated that kangaroo was spotted outside city hall before being captured and turned over to the Department of Natural Resources on Wednesday.

The kangaroo had been listed on Craigslist on March 13, about two weeks before its capture. The listing was seeking about $4,500 and stated that it was a 7-month-old male red kangaroo.

"He was mother fed and is half tame. He still needs worked with, but will come up to you," the post read.

Police were able to contact the kangaroo's owner and posted an update on its status to their Facebook page shortly after its capture.

"The owner had purchased the animal to try and train it as a pet," they wrote. "He planned to keep it out in the country but that location fell through as a housing option."

Norwalk police said the owner was ultimately able to find a buyer in Nebraska.
