When you’re the music supervisor on Broad City, you get to soundtrack scenes like this season’s bathroom montage — and, to Matt FX’s surprise, also a Hillary Clinton cameo. “I didn’t really imagine I was going to be putting music under Hillary Clinton this year,” FX, also music supervisor on Difficult People, tells EW. “That wasn’t really on my list of things to do.”

But it wasn’t too hard for the musician to find the perfect track for the scene, where a winking Clinton approaches an overjoyed Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) and Ilana (Ilana Glazer). “It must have taken all of seven minutes to find the tune, because I saw the scene, and it was a situation where I’m back in the room being like, ‘Gotcha!’”

FX describes the song playing during Clintion’s cameo, the Sweater Beats remix of Kastle’s “Anything’s Possible,” as similar to Flume’s remix of Disclosure’s “You & Me,” “but even more presidential.”

“It’s bombastic and it’s very regal and there’s a lot of brass,” he explains. “But also that strong, crazy beat that artists like Flume are known for.”

FX quickly nailed down the track for Clinton’s entrance, but it’s not always so easy choosing a song. FX, who is also part of a music supergroup called Scooter Island, details a time he was supposed to be finding a “baller-ass hip-hop” track for a scene set at New York’s 40/40 Club but instead went out for drinks with his friends — and it’s good that he did: That night, he ended up hearing the song that would not only soundtrack that scene but also each of the promos for this season.

“I’m freaking out because I should be home looking at music,” he says. “Then as soon as I got [into the club], I saw this vision on the floor in a cowboy hat and assless chaps performing a song that I can describe as somewhere between Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim, and Christina Aguilera. I was immediately blown away.”

That woman turned out to be K Rizz, and her “Yes Bitch” ultimately got a spot on Broad City. “I really do believe in serendipitous occasions. You never know when a song’s gonna show up,” FX says. “Trusting my worst instinct to go drink instead of go home and then meeting her soon after was an achievement for me.”
