PNoy to lead AFP’s 80th anniversary rites at Clark Air Base on Monday

President Benigno Aquino III will be leading the Armed Forces of the Philippines' 80th anniversary celebrations on Monday, December 21.

This year, the event will be held at Clark Air Base in Pampanga.

The President will be conferring awards to 19 military personnel in recognition of their service to the country. Closing the event will be a fly-by to present 40 aircraft newly acquired by the AFP.

Around 800 people are expected to join the event, including Depatment of National Defense officials and staff, AFP Major Services Commanders, AFP Joint Staff, PNP and PCG Officers and their ladies, Former Presidents of the Philippines, members of the Cabinet and Diplomatic Corps, veterans, reservists, retirees and other invited guests.

During last year's anniversary celebration in Camp Aguinaldo, Aquino vowed to provide more benefits to military personnel, and to continue housing and livelihood projects for AFP officers. He also warned the soldiers in attendance to be wary of self-serving politicians who have vested interest in the outcome of the 2016 national elections. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
