Madonna wants to make fans very clear about one thing: She hasn’t been performing “drunk or high” during her latest set of shows.

In a new Instagram photo, she highlights a message from a fan Remington Graves that reads, “The latest media onslaught against Madonna is that she’s taken to being drunk on stage, which anyone who knows anything about her knows this is absolutely ridiculous.” The note continues later, “And these sort of accusations are nothing short of misogynistic attempt to undermine a highly accomplished woman’s value.”

Madonna captioned the photo with her own response to media speculation. “Thanks for supporting me. Too bad people don’t know the art of acting and playing a character,” she wrote. “I could never do any of my shows high or drunk. And yes underlying all of this is sexism and mysongony which proves that not only do we not get equal pay bUt we are still treated like heretics if we step out of line and think outside the box!”

The note comes a week after Madonna performed on stage as a clown to an intimate group in Melbourne, Australia. Tabloid reports claimed she had appeared drunk and a rep for Madonna denied those accusations in a statement: “She was not drunk, and as promised; Madonna had one cosmo on stage. Nothing more. Nothing less.”

The reports had surfaced in the midst of the star’s custody battle for son Rocco with ex-husband Guy Ritchie. During the show in Melbourne she dedicated a song to Rocco and said, “I probably would have enjoyed myself a bit more on this tour if he hadn’t disappeared so suddenly. I’m going to dedicate this song to him.”
