Amy Schumer denies joke theft allegations

Amy Schumer was recently accused of joke theft by someone who made a video comparing her jokes to other comedians’ gags, and the Trainwreck star denied the allegations in a tweet posted Wednesday.

“On my life, I have never and would never steal a joke,” she wrote.

The video creator alleges Schumer took jokes from Kathleen Madigan, Wendy Liebman, Tammy Pescatelli, and the late Patrice O’Neal. Along with clips comparing Schumer’s jokes and sketches from Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer to other comedians’ bits, the video also includes a side-by-side of the poster for Trainwreck that features Schumer chugging a beer while wearing a gown and a promo photo for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia that shows star Kaitlin Olson in a similar position.

Schumer also went on Jim Norton’s SiriusXM show Wednesday to address the allegations. “I would never, ever do that, and I never have,” she said. “I have to come up with so much material for my TV show, this movie, stand-up. And I’m so careful. And none of these things had ever reached me. I will literally take a polygraph. And I just would never do that. That would be so stupid for me to do that.”

This past fall, Schumer was accused of stealing jokes after someone noticed that both she and O’Neal had bits about obscure sex positions. At the time, Schumer issued a response on Twitter, writing she had “never seen that Patrice bit but [will] watch today.” “I love and miss him,” she wrote.
