Risk prevention and intervention strategies in drug administration for patients with glaucoma

Abstract: Objective To establish a plan of risk prevention and intervention strategies in medication for patients w ith glaucoma,and guarantee the drug use safety of patients. Methods Contraindicated drugs to glaucoma w ere summarized according to medication instruction. Based on the statistics of the outpatient prescription database for glaucoma patients in 2014,w e found that in several departments prescriptions w ere inappropriate for patients w ith glaucoma. Educational materials w ere developed for physicians,pharmacists and glaucomatous patients. Questionnaire survey and medical education w ere conducted respectively for doctors,pharmacists and patients. The hospital information system w as improved,and medication tips for glaucoma use w ere added. Results The doctors used an inappropriate drug for 16. 2% of glaucoma patients,and 88% of doctors w ould ask history of glaucoma before prescribing; 78% understood w hich drug w as contraindicated to glaucoma. About 98% of doctors hoped hospital information system w ould be improved; 29% of pharmacists w ould ask patients about a history of glaucoma w hile assessing prescription,51% of pharmacists w ould inform patients about risk of contraindicated medication; 80% of pharmacists understood w hich drug w as contraindicated to glaucoma; 30% of patients w ould inform the doctor about history of glaucoma; 11% of patients understood w hich drug w as contraindicated to glaucoma; 72% of patients w ould adhere to medication. Conclusion The cognitive level of glaucoma contraindication medication isn’ t high in doctors,pharmacists or glaucomatous patients,so it is necessary and effective to establish the risk prevention plan and intervention strategy in the treatment of glaucoma patients.
