I thought this would be much more difficult than it was. This kit is very easy, 1st turn off the water before you start, just make sure you polish the pipe so it is smooth before installing the kit or you might have a leak later. I recommend using nu shine to polish the pipe. Also make sure you put the bolts on tightly that clamp onto the pipe. The kit comes with extra parts in case you drop something on the floor and loose it like I did. The kit shouldn't require teflon tape, just make sure everything is on tight. The kit took 15 minutes to install still works great a couple months later. Always throw the first few sets of ice cubes away.

Because I was ordering an icemaker from Amazon, tossed this in with the order to get it with free shipping, all came in the same box so that was nice.

I read the reviews here and was concerned that some folks had a problem with the nuts not holding the poly line firmly. So I paid special attention to that, made sure I tightened them enough and used a wrench on the body of the valves to hold that end firmly, insured they were tight, and looks good, no leaks.

Actually, the icemaker instructions said to use copper line, not poly, not sure why they say that, I believe this plastic is properly rated for this service, so why not? Well yeah, until my basement and kitchen undergoes a slow flood.

I don't think this kit would be much different from what I could get at the home store anyway, but at a better price, so I'm pleased.

Took a chance on this bargain basement connection kit and couldn't be happier. Step-by-step: screw threaded saddle valve into bracket (needed crescent wrench due to tight fit) until it just about protrudes; install rubber gasket; attach saddle valve bracket assembly to copper cold water pipe under sink using Phillips Head screw driver (don’t pierce pipe yet); fish plastic (1/4” O.D. polyethylene) line from water supply to refrigerator (mine went behind the dishwasher to the fridge through a hole I drilled in the kitchen cabinet – this was the trickiest part since the coiled plastic line won’t stay straight – I used a straightened coat hanger and taped the plastic line to it to pull it through); slide nut with captive sleeve over each end of line; insert brass sleeve into each end of line (there were 3 such nuts and sleeves in my kit); attach line to saddle valve using ½” wrench; put other end in bucket to test; turn saddle valve clockwise to pierce copper pipe then turn counterclockwise to allow water flow into bucket; turn saddle valve clockwise to stop water flow; attach line to refrigerator with ½” wrench; open saddle valve again; done! I just coiled up the whole 25 feet of line behind my fridge. It took the water flow a full (anxious) minute to make its way through my LG LFX25978 refrigerator filtration system but it has been working flawlessly ever since with no trace of a leak anywhere.

I've never done this before. And I was nervous to put it on, thinking it was going to.cause a leak in the copper line. I ran the line using the insert. Tightened everything on the fridge and the tapping unit. Then I tapped the water line. So far so good. No leaks. Even works as off valve. If I ever need to service the fridge. I am satisfied and recommend this product. Ease of use. Price, and quality

I got this kit to run a water line from my kitchen sink to my refrigerator's ice maker. I am not a plumber, but I do understand the basic concepts of plumbing and have tackled a few small plumbing jobs. The included instructions are not the best if you need to be walked through every little step, but if you have an experience level similar to me you should be able to get through it.

The kit I got had slightly different pieces than what is in the product picture, however it did have everything I needed. The picture shows 2 nuts and some washers to go on the bolts that hold the two pieces of the saddle together. In the kit I received there were no nuts or washers because the nuts are actually welded to the bottom part of the saddle and the bolts just screw directly into them. All other pieces were the same.

According to the instructions the self-tapping saddle valve that comes with this kit can only be used to tap into a supply line that is 3/8" to 1-3/8" plastic or copper so make sure and check the size and material of the line you will tap into if you plan on using this valve. My sink line is mostly the flexible stainless steel, but fortunately there was about a foot of copper pipe between that and the faucet which I was able to tap into. The one problem I had with this kit was with threading the saddle onto the tap-valve. If you look at the product picture it shows the T-valve already has half of the "saddle" on it, but mine came with that saddle part separate. You are suppose to be able to just screw that saddle on the tap-valve (it's already threaded so should not be an issue), however the hole in the saddle was slightly too small. I had to take a pair of vice-grips and and adjustable wrench and man-handle the thing on. After a good bit of elbow grease I was able to finally get it on, though, and after that installing the valve was very easy. After you tighten the saddle around the pipe (and put the included rubber gasket below the T-valve), you simply start turning the T-valve clockwise as far as it will go and there is a spike inside that pierces the supply line. It was so easy that I did not even feel it going into the pipe and actually thought at first it wasn't going down far enough to pierce it. When I turned the valve back the other way, though, water started flowing just like it should.

Then it was just a matter of running the plastic line to my fridge and using the included supplies to connect it. I used plumbers tape on all the threads just as a precaution, but supposedly you do not have to if you don't want to.

I would again caution anyone who wants a clear step-by-step guide from this kit, but I think as long as you have a basic understanding of plumbing you will be OK. I am giving it 4 stars due to the saddle valve issue and since the instructions could be better. For the price, though, I think this is hard to beat.

I bought this mainly for the poly line, which is working like a champ. Some of the pieces aren't great build quality so my plumber refused to use them. He said to keep them as spares, just in case.
