The Taco Emoji Will Finally Come to iPhones With iOS 9.1

All hail taco emoji!

Apple will launch iOS 9, its latest mobile operating system update, to the public next week, but iOS 9.1 is already available for developers. And when that update goes public, our long taco emoji-less nightmare will be over, according to screenshots from The Next Web. The iOS 9.1 update will include a bunch of new emojis recently approved by unicode, and the taco emoji is the star of the show.

Food emojis

If you aren't a fan of tacos — what kind of monster are you? —  there are even more food-related emojis included in the update. It appears burrito, cheese wedge, hot dog, popcorn, and "bottle with a popping cork," will be available for when you want to text a friend about comestibles without typing actual words. Apple hasn't announced when iOS 9.1 will be sent out to the public, but it should be in the near future. There's no word on when the emojis might show up on Android devices.

In January, Taco Bell started a Change.org petition in an effort to bring the taco emoji to life, collecting more than 25,000 signatures. The iOS emoji could spell doom for the platform's taco texting app, which launched last September.
