I simply loved this book! I got to read an early copy, and the pages flew by too fast! I loved the characters, and the seamless world-building. If you like science fiction, action, and well-developed characters, you'll love CHAMELEON!

Chameleon is one of the best YA sci-fi novels I've read in a long time. The action starts on page one, and kept me riveted until the final page. The characters are three-dimensional and complex. Sai is a fantastic lead character, strong and kickass but with a vulnerable side. Although she's a believable teen, the writing had a mature feel which will appeal to adult as well as YA readers. The other characters are well-developed and interesting, and there's just enough detail to create a vivid picture of the future-world without slowing the pace. Mostly, I loved how fresh and unique this story felt. I'd thoroughly recommend Chameleon to fans of both YA and sci-fi!

I love this book!! <3 Sai isn't your typical YA heroine, she's vulnerable and strong at the same time, without coming across as wishy washy. As she tries to control her power and form relationships with those around her, I wanted to hug her, but I was afraid she'd punch me if I tried. The world building is fantastic, with a sort of Blade Runner meets X-Men with anime influences feeling that leaves me wanting more. This is scifi at it's best!

In a world filled with humans who don’t have superpowers, humans who do have superpowers, humans who glare, and alien-like robotic humanoids who just . . . do things, little Sai’s superpowers awaken. She gains new abilities, but destroys an entire block in the process, killing both of her parents.
As a result, she’s emotionally traumatized.
Like, seriously traumatized.
But in this world, traumatized little girls do not get to recover through conventional means. In this world, they are taken in by GNW, a pharmaceutical corporation turned government, who train them to become perfect assassins to carry out their deeds as they see fit. Because
If you owe GNW a debt of gratitude, it’s their privilege to keep only the strongest.
And Sai is one of the strongest. In fact, she’s what they call a Rare, in possession of abilities of such immense power that GNW can only drool and covet in their wildest dreams to lay their hands on.
Which is why Sai’s new mentor Bastion insists she keep her Rareness a secret. And just so she doesn’t slip up, he assigns to her Dom, an alien-like robotic humanoid, who is a rare of sorts among his brethren, too.
And you know what happens when a Rare meets a rare . . . wiiiink.
It absorbed me like a sponge soaking up spilled wine
- Amazing world-building done through very subtle exposition. It’s a post-apocalyptic future, and so the people and their relationships, the technology and its usage, the weapons, the communication style—all of it is profound, intricate, almost pedantic, yet insanely entertaining to read.
- Sai’s inner turmoil is presented really, really well. I LOVE tarnished heroes and heroines. I like ‘em imperfect and insecure, doubting every word and action, mistrusting every relationship they have . . . But I also want to feel empowered through them as they overcome all that and get to some awesome ass-kickery. Sai does all that and more, and I love it! That said . . .
No amount of wine could redeem this
- Some characters . . . I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the presence of some of the characters (ahem, Zach, looking at you, buddy!), but I presume, since Chameleon is the first in a series, we’ll get to know them more intimately when the time comes.
- This one’s more subjective than all the other points I’ve made, but the third-person present-tense . . . not a huge fan. It somehow stands out to me more than I’d care it to, getting in the way of the story and all that. Just a preference of mine.
Bottom Line
Nikita-like post-apocolyptic novel with a heroine that would give Katniss a run for her money.

I actually have two reviews in one. I gave my ARC to my 15 year old daughter to read, as she is definitely in the target audience for this book and I knew that the subject matter would appeal to her. She thoroughly enjoyed it, and when she finished, proclaimed loudly "I want MORE!" She honestly can not wait for the next two books and is terribly excited to get a hard copy of the book. In this day and age, when she reads and discards books on her mobile devices, wanting a hard copy is definitely a ringing endorsement!
For my own review: I really enjoyed the book. Character development, especially in YA these days, has become rote and thin. Not so in this book. The characters are three dimensional, and engaging. The story is fresh and not buried in needless bland descriptions. The pace moves along briskly, but not so swiftly that the reader feels left behind. As an adult reading a YA dystopian novel, I did not feel talked down to which is something that has happened in other YA novels I have read. I have preordered a Kindle version for myself, as having two hard copies in one household seems a little overboard, but I do like re-reading good writing. And this IS good writing.

I was lucky enough to get an early copy and I can't wait to see the finished version. I may be a bit biased because I know the author, but this is an AWESOME scifi story. It's beautifully detailed with great characters. The science is not too heavy and still maintains an air of realism. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series because wow.

I was one of the lucky ones to see this novel evolve over time. Even as a rough draft, this was an incredibly strong story. I was also blessed to be able to read the final product before it was released. Oh how I love ARCs! :)
By far one of my favorite YA SciFi novels of all time. KT Hanna has a way of getting into the head and the heart of both her characters and her readers. Her story. Her words. Her strong plot. Her strong and diverse characters. All leave the reader feeling all the emotions and craving more. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series...and more from KT Hanna!
Sai wasn't born a leader. It was thrust upon her and she is learning how to handle that on top of learning how to control her powers. Her interactions with Bastian and Dom are strong without the need to be saved by a guy. Sai is truly a model heroine. More girls need to strive to be like her, including me.

Having read a number of sci-fi/dystopia genre books, I was pleasantly surprised and very grateful that this book has the elements of emotion, intrigue and surprises. Tapping into the emotional turmoil of a teenager with special gifts is hard enough, as just describing what an angst ridden normal teenager is going through would be difficult as all most can manage are the occasional grunts. When reading through most books, I can fairly guess what happens next, this book tripped me up on a few occasions. This book also let me imagine what the world, the characters and the craft , without going overboard into to much detail. Working ones' imagination is a gift that few authors can give the reader and this young lady has it in spades!! Thoroughly looking forward to the next one.

First a warning...this isn't a typical Mandie book. There isn't romance or kissing or even happily ever after. I just want to make readers aware of that first. I knew this going in (I was lucky enough to get an early e-book copy) and yet I still loved this book.
If you're a fan of sci-fi you'll enjoy Sai's thrilling ride as her psionic powers awaken and she trains to learn to control them. The characters she meets on her journey (humans, some with psionic powers, and Dominos (alien-parasite and psionic hybrids) help create a whole new world to get lost in.
K.T. does a great job of mixing whit, snark and sci-fi together that you can't help but enjoy this book.

I really enjoyed reading this book. K.T. Hanna has a way of creating a cast of characters that are vivid and fully developed. Sai is strong, yet there’s a vulnerability to her that makes her endearing. The voice is fantastic and the fight scenes had me holding my breath. K.T. is a wonderful storyteller, weaving in all the details and emotions with amazing twists. Really loved the SciFi world she developed, I couldn’t put this down. From the beautiful cover to the amazing ending, it’s a well-crafted piece of art.

Never someone who was able to get into YA fiction, I wasn't expecting to love Chameleon as much as I did. Previous attempts to read YA have usually left me with a feeling that I knew the book was well-written and probably awesome, but that it just wasn't for me.
Maybe I was reading the wrong books, because Chameleon pulled me in right away, and left me with an overwhelming desire to learn more about the world, and especially about Dom and the rest of the Dominos.
The first few chapters of the book present a slow, steady build, which I'm always a fan of, and the tension continues to mount from there. Though Bastian and Dom felt more fleshed out as characters to me, I also found Sai to be a likeable protagonist, and her unfamiliarity with what was happening around her made her a perfect vehicle for the reader's entry into the world of the narrative.
Some of the secondary characters introduced in the last third or so of the book felt as though they could have been developed in greater detail, but I expect this is something that'll happen in future volumes, so it wasn't really a major issue.
K.T.Hanna's writing was consistently compelling, intelligent, and crisp, and I'm excited to have found a new author to follow and recommend.
Chameleon should appeal to anyone who loves genre fiction, and in particular to readers looking for great character development and a bit of intrigue along with their action. I can't speak for the YA audience, but as an avid reader who doesn't usually read in that genre, I suspect regular YA readers will find much to love.
I'm also very, very glad the ebook included a sample from the sequel, as that helped satisfy me after the cliff-hanger ending. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it revealed a number of Very Exciting Things that promise fascinating twists and turns to come.

I cannot say enough about the world-building in this book. The complex privately run government, the depth of abilities with the psionics, and the dominos...
After Sai's powers wake up and destroy a city block, she trains to use her abilities for the GNW. Sai, Bastion and Dom work together on Sai's training and on missions Sai's sent out on. The more she does, the more she learns and there are secrets she uncovers that unravel everything she thought she knew. There's something about this book that reminds me of Nalini Singh--in the best possible way.
KT's writing is superb. It flows seeemlessly and it's easy to know which character's head you're inside of because they "sound" different. I love books where I'm transported into the story as I read and this book pulled me in from the first page. The only problem I had was having to put it down to make dinner. I consider myself a book-eater and I devoured this book in a day. Love it and I can't wait for more from KT.

There is nothing I enjoy more about a book than the feeling you get when you can’t put it down, the desperation to pick it back up and see what will happen next. I got that with Chameleon.
Not only did K.T. Hanna create an amazingly in depth world in which her story took place she built and developed characters that fit it perfectly. The personalities and the struggles make sense for the society. There is a reason why people are the way they are, not just a whim or an authors choice of fancy.
Nobody is perfect and this holds true for Bastian, Sai and even my favorite Domino 12. No matter what demands are made of Sai, K.T. Hanna also gives readers the reminder that she is a teenager, and that being said there is a lot riding on her young shoulders. You find yourself cheering her on as she grows through the trials she is confronted with.
The book leaves me excited for the second addition, without a nasty cliffhanger. She gives the reader closure to the story without the unpleasant confusion often experienced with a series.

I was very lucky to receive an E-ARC of this book, and one thing's for sure: this is MY kind of book (so much so that I'm ordering a hard copy because I want it on my bookshelf!)
I loved it. Just the right amount of suspense, action, and character development. Sai was such an interesting character, extremely well thought-out. The world building was equally fantastic, everything (the society and the system structures) felt real, and any questions I had were answered.
There were a couple of other characters (more minor ones) who I initially got a little mixed up about, but once I was into the plot, I soon worked out who was who--and I felt like I knew all the characters.
This book really is compelling, so if you're into YA SF thrillers, then I highly recommend CHAMELEON. I can't wait for the sequel!

Psionics, alien-hybrids, and kick-ass protagonists? How could you *not* read this?!
After reading through this book, my first thought was "when does the next one come out?!". From the beginning, the characters pulled me into this grand world. There was never a dull moment, and I look forward to learning more about Sai, Dom, Bastian, and the fate of the world in the next book(s)!
I fell completely in love with the world that K.T. Hanna brought to life in Chameleon, and cannot recommend it enough!

This book was fantastic. Well written, with complex world building. KT Hanna knows how to weave a well paced story that keeps you glued to the pages. The characters are engaging and believable. Dom being my absolute favorite.I was completely enamored by the friendships in this story, the way they developed and progressed. I especially loved seeing Dom's feelings for Sai grow. So sweet. I honestly could not get enough of him.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!!

A seriously great sci-fi. Dark, edgy and complex. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a gripping read because of the author's tense voice; the characters are well defined, believable and likeable, despite all of their flaws; the story flows well; and the ending leaves you on edge to read more. If you like sci-fi, you will love this book.

I don't know which character I liked the most Sai, Dom, or Bastian. This book was so good. It is well edited, kept you entranced in the story line and is a fast read. The characters were well rounded and very easy to connect to. I found myself glancing at the countdown on my kindle thinking- no, it can't almost be over- I'm not ready!

Reminiscent of Ursula K LeGuin's Talents Series
With the possibility of alien nanotechnology. Although the alien metal deposited on the Earth by a meteor shower carries a "parasite" which acts on metals and electric current, It reads more like the probable actions of nanite devices. The psionic powers of the humans and dominoes are comparable to those in LeGuin's novels, so if you like her works you will probably enjoy this novel as well.

Thoroughly enjoyed it
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this anywhere near as much as I did. The story is engrossing, the world building and characters well thought out and excellently drawn with the detail fine enough to give real colour to the plot without being cumbersome.
All in all an excellent read and well worth giving a try.

This book wouldn't let me put it down, I finished it in 24hrs and have now downloaded the 2nd one!
I enjoyed watching Sai's evolution (and Dom's). I do wish there was a twist with Jefferys or more conflict in the big battle/escape chapters. Felt like that all went too smoothly (until it didn't).

The concept is good...
I enjoyed the concept of this book but there are some ideas that are a little too nebulous to fully understand. I think I got the gist of most of the ideas but I have a lot of questions. Unfortunately I don’t know if I’m excited enough to read the second book in the series to see if they answer any of those questions.

Riveting from beginning to end
I’m completely enthralled with KT Hanna’s storytelling. The characters Sai, Bastion and Dom are so well formed, and the tension throughout the book kept me up into the night. I was reluctant to put the book down. I’ll be starting the next in the series soon.

Cool world!
This book has an excellently crafted dystopian setting. The protagonist is well written and the other characters are engaging. I'm looking forward to reading more!
This book has an excellently crafted dystopian setting. The protagonist is well written and the other characters are engaging. I'm looking forward to reading more!

The Bohemian Housewife Review
Chameleon is a YA, sci-fi novel about a futuristic world where people with psionic powers exist. What are psionic powers? Powers as telepathy, telekinesis, and other potent abilities.
The MC is Sai who is a teenager girl. She had her powers awaken when she was 12 and she has been scarred for life because of the lives she had taken when those powers emerged. At that age, she’s recruited and trained by an organization that uses psionic abilities for their own purposes and profits. They train psionic humans to be assassins so they can use them to enforce their laws. When she survives all the years of training and the final test, she is lucky to get Bastian as her mentor, since he’s not all that the corporation thinks he is. He’s a rare and so is Sai, and Bastian is hell-bent in keeping that a secret and he assigns her a Domino who is as special as they are.
Sai is a strong, troubled, and likable character. She’s really sensible though she tries to hide it from others. She’s also learning how to control her powers and finding out things that she had never thought she could do with the help of Domino and Bastian. I liked Bastian, a lot! Sai’s Dom is also a well-developed character who enriches the story and adds more depth to it.
I read this story, slowly, not because it was boring or anything of that sort, but because it was a rich world with a lot to take in and I didn’t want to rush my reading and then lose important aspects of the story. Plus, I wanted this review to be more than a few words about how enticing and fresh the plot and the heroine are.
Let’s tackle some aspects of the book.
First, the world.
The futuristic post-apocalyptic world is as amazing as frightening. It’s well described and based on historical background and scientific explanations. People are micro-chipped and used. The GNW, a pharmaceutical corporation turned government, rules and decides the fate of everybody and monopolizes everything. There are robots, failed genetic experiences, and beings that are treated as slaves, products, soldiers, etc. It’s not a peaceful and nice world to live in. Despite the evolution of technology, the majority of people live poorly, only a few rich ones can afford the commodities and perks of what the corporations have to sell. Drugs rule the streets and keep everybody numb while an iron fist uses its power to kill whoever is against its hegemony.
Second, the writing.
The pace of this story starts really well and the world, settings, and society are explained while the story flows so it doesn’t feel heavy or rushed. The author shows everything with a lot of details and impressive color-painting skills.
Third, the characters.
Though I have already spoken above a bit about the main characters in this story, it must be said that the character development was well-done, they are all three dimension and have depth. You get to know the characters not only by what they think but also, by the way, they act in the story.
Overall, this book is easy to get lost and enjoy because of the imaginative power of the writer and the writing style that makes us plunge into the emotions and the perils as if we are experiencing them ourselves.
I highly recommend this book to teens and adults who love sci-fi. If you like well-develop plots and strong-willing characters who fight for survival and righteousness, you will enjoy this book and you’ll be eager for the next one to come out.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
It took me a while to finish this book but i finally did! This was my first time reading a book as sci-fi as this and honestly, i got lost so many times than i could count. Firstly, i don't understand why terms inside this book were not directly explained. (For example: Shields) i would have loved to know just what they were so i could grasp the situation at hand. I didn't like how Aishke was introduced so late in the story, it was like she popped out of nowhere even though she's related to Bastian. Some parts within the story were so confusing and tedious, i was forced to put down this book countless times. Overall, this book had a lot of action and the plot was not bad. The sentences in this book were complex and there were more than enough words i had to search up in the dictionary. Would have loved a bit more explanation and organisation in the story. The ending left a cliffhanger but wasn't gripping me to read the next book in the series.
