In the years since its pilot aired back in 2014, The CW's gritty sci-fi thriller's impressive war-torn plot has taken a toll on its characters' appearances. With the third season underway, click ahead to see how they've transformed after leaving their sheltered floating home for the dangerous life on post-apocalyptic Earth.

Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor)

Clarke began the series as the 100's reluctant heroine and medic, whose looks and earnest efforts to ensure their survival led the delinquents to nickname her "princess." Now, she's nicknamed "Wanheda," for being the commander of death after the events at Mount Weather. And though her dyed hair may have washed out early in season 3, her ensemble has dramatically changed.

As the delinquents' leader in season 1, the troublemaker and his slicked-back hair believed in doing "whatever the hell we want." Not so much anymore, especially after roughin' it through risky missions — including all that undercover work inside Mount Weather that, at one point, saw him crawling through the vents, just barely avoiding incineration.

Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos)

Octavia's metamorphosis may have been the show's most impressive, thanks to an arc that saw her shed her reckless ways with the delinquents for a life with Lincoln (Ricky Whittle) and the Grounders — and plenty of braids.

Jasper Jordan (Devon Bostick)

It's not just the lack of goggles and messy hair that makes Jasper different: The loss he suffered at Mount Weather changed the goofy comic relief of season 1 into a tortured, regrettably liable member of the Arkers. The shot above on the right comes from the season 3 premiere, during which Jasper smiled while a member of the Ice Nation held a knife to his throat. That's no comic relief.

Monty Green (Christopher Larkin)

Jasper's best friend Monty also weathered the adventures inside the mountain, leaving him bloodied throughout season 2. In season 3, the tech wiz has become a much more hardened warrior.

Raven Reyes (Lindsey Morgan)

Raven fell from the sky after the delinquents did, and though her style has barely changed in comparison to the others, she's suffered worse than most: Grounders tortured her for intel, an explosion wounded her while she was trying to take down the power at Mount Weather, and the Mountain Men chose her as one of their final bone marrow-harvesting victims. Worst of all, her leg has never fully healed since a gunshot wound in season 2.

John Murphy (Richard Harmon)

For a guy who got to stay some 80-odd days in a clean bunker atop a tower between season 2 and 3, Murphy never bothered to clean up his look. But he probably never wanted to, anyway: Throughout the seasons, the hot-headed delinquent nearly got hanged, was forced into exile, and was later recruited to join Jaha's quest for the City of Light. No wonder he's so grimy now: Who has time for a shower after all that?

Abby Griffin (Paige Turco)

The Ark's chief medical officer began the series struggling to separate her professional and personal instincts (in other words, her daughter Clarke), but by season 3, she's struggling to separate her duties as the chancellor with her duties as the Arkers' doctor. The strain has clearly gotten to Dr. Griffin — and with Pike's (Michael Beach) actions, that strain is bound to increase.

Thelonious Jaha (Isaiah Washington)

Oh, how far the former chancellor has fallen. Jaha started out as the leader of the Ark's Council, grappling with difficult choices like sending the 100 down to Earth (a group that included his son) as well as the later culling to conserve resources. But between season 1 and 2, Jaha miraculously made his way down to Earth after sacrificing himself for his people, and ever since, he's believed wholeheartedly in the City of Light — and of doing anything — including traipsing his way through a sandy minefield — to get there.

Marcus Kane (Henry Ian Cusick)

The former councilman has always favored pragmatism over emotion. He's learned to sympathize over the seasons, but he's paid attention to the upkeep of the survivors' camp and of himself — not an easy task, considering how Kane had, at one point, been captured by Grounders and forced to contend with Lexa's (Alycia Debnam-Carey) games.
