Bengaluru: Housejoy, (Sarvaloka Services on Call Pvt. Ltd) an on-demand home services company acquired at-home personal fitness start-up Orobind Fitness Technologies Pvt Ltd for an undisclosed amount in an all stock deal. Orobind will help bolster Housejoy’s offerings in the health and wellness categories.

This is Housejoy’s second acquisition in less than a month as it acquired dry cleaning and laundry start-up MyWash Technologies Pvt. Ltd earlier this month.

There are over 100 home and local services companies that offer services like photographers, wedding planners, yoga and fitness trainers, plumbers and electricians among others.

Founded in December 2014 by Satya Vyas and Shubhanshu Srivastava, Orobind serves around 1,000 customers in Bengaluru and has around 135 active personal trainers on its platform. Fitness services are offered on subscription-based model starting from three months comprising 8-12 sessions. Housejoy serves roughly 5,000 customers in five cities in the fitness category.

“The acquisition is a part of our strategy to become leaders in this categories with high repeat order rates. With this acquisition we are looking to create a differentiated lifestyle experience for our customers across beauty, fitness and wellness categories," Saran Chatterjee, chief executive at Housejoy, said in a statement.

The co-founders and senior management of Orobind will join Housejoy. Orobind had around 12 employees, according to Chatterjee. Vyas will head the fitness vertical and Srivastava will assume the role of chief architect of the technology platform.

“For Orobind it gives us an opportunity to be a part of a larger at-home services play and build a very large wellness category. For HouseJoy it gives them the depth it requires to be the largest player in the overall wellness category," said Vyas, chief executive at Orobind in a statement.

The relatively young home and local services companies are increasingly taking the inorganic route to increase its category offerings, expand to new cities and strengthen its teams.

Companies have raised large rounds of funding to fuel its acquisition and expansion plans. Housejoy had raised 150 crore from a clutch of blue chip investors led by online marketplace Amazon India in December 2015. UrbanClap Technologies Pvt Ltd raised $25 million led by Bessemer Ventures in November 2015, and Quikr India Pvt Ltd is looking to infuse 250 crore into QuikrServices.
