Alfa Romeo will delay the launch of the Giulia sedan by six months along with the debut of their first SUV model.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde was supposed to be launched in Europe by the end of 2015, as the first model of the company’s new era, but Autonews now reports that the launch is now pushed back a further six months, to the middle of 2016.

The first SUV of the brand, which is based on the Giulia platform will not hit the market up until early 2017, nine months later than originally planned according to supplier sources speaking to AN.

FCA boss Sergio Marchionne announced that they are re-examining Alfa Romeo’s global expansion plans a few days ago because of the Chinese market’s slowdown, saying that the new models may come in a different order than originally planned in order to better satisfy customers in Europe and North America.

The original plan was talking about Alfa Romeo selling globally 400,000 units by 2018 but with China slowing down and the potential delays in the launches of the Giulia and their first SUV, we can’t help but think that their set goal was a bit too optimistic.
