LSU Basketball’s season has officially come to an end after not making the NCAA Tournament

The LSU Tigers came into the 2015-16 college basketball season, and rightfully so. They were coming into the campaign with a young freshman that everyone was comparing to LeBron James in phenom Ben Simmons, as well as some other mildly talented players. At the very least, the season was supposed to end with a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Well, things don’t always work out as planned no matter who’s on your roster, and with Selection Sunday now here and gone, we learned that the Tigers will not be dancing. What we also learned was that they will not be participating in any postseason action at all.

Not long after they found out they were left out of the field, LSU officially announced that they have declined to accept any postseason invitations.

“We will be able to utilize this time to get better and start preparations for next season. We fell short of the mark of getting to the NCAA Tournament; I take full responsibility for this team, and will do the things necessary to make sure we are able to reach one of our main goals at LSU in the future,” said LSU Head Coach Johnny Jones.

Of course, this statement is even assuming that Jones is coaching the team next season, as he was blamed for a lot of the woes the team suffered through as the season went on.

When all was said and done, the Tigers finished the season 19-14 overall and 11-7 in the SEC. They had their good moments such as an 18-point win over Kentucky, but their bad on the year seriously outweighed the good. Such as their last performance which was a complete embarrassment against Texas A&M in the SEC semifinals on Saturday.

And of course, this brings an end to the tumultuous career of Simmons in Baton Rouge, as he will now begin preparations to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. He ends his short career having averaged 19.2 points per game with 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
