Robredo overtakes Marcos in latest Pulse Asia VP poll

Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo surged ahead of Sen. Bongbong Marcos in the latest vice presidential preference poll conducted by Pulse Asia from April 26 to 29.

In the poll sponsored by ABS-CBN, Robredo scored a rating of 30 percent, two points ahead of Marcos in the poll, which sampled 4,000 registered voters with a margin of error of ±1.5 percent at the 95% confidence level.

The two candidates, however, remain statistically tied.

Robredo's rating jumped four points from the previous Pulse Asia poll conducted on April 19 to 24, while Marcos dropped three points.

Senators Chiz Escudero and Alan Peter Cayetano were next with 18 percent and 15 percent, respectively. Their ratings were unchanged from the previous poll.

Senators Gringo Honasan Antonio Trillanes rounded out the list with 3 and 2 percent, respectively.

Four percent of the voters were undecided.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Robredo said she is grateful for the survey results.

"We are grateful that we have finally topped the Pulse Asia survey with a few days to go before elections," she said.

"Tuluy-tuloy lang po ang suporta para masiguro ang tunay na panalo sa ika-siyam ng Mayo," added Robredo.

Prevailing social and political developments immediately before and during the conduct of the survey include:

-Senator Antonio Trillanes IV's allegations that presidential bet Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has P 211 million in one bank account;

-the announcement of the Remullas  of Cavite of their dropping of VP Jejomar Binay for Duterte;

- the withdrawal by Albay governor Joey Salceda of his support for ruling Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas in order to back the candidacy of Sen. Grace Poe; and

-the last leg of the Comelec-sanctioned presidential debates held in Pangasinan and attended by all the five presidential contenders.

Other leading events hogging the news include the arrest of another suspect in the hacking of the Comelec website; beheading of a Canadian held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf; investigation of the Department of Justice into another "tanim bala" incident; and the passing away of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.  —JST/KG/LBG, GMA News
