Cabinet approves General Budget 2016-17

New Delhi : Shortly from  now, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely will present NDA government?s third general budget which was accorded formal approval by the cabinet today. If the signals emanating from Economic Survey 2015-16 which was tabled in Parliament on February 26 are anything to go by, it appears that in all likelihood, the Union Finance Minister will restrain himself from making populist announcements like hike in  income tax  limit, among others, and will stick to the path of fiscal consolidation. Mr Jaitley along with his junior Jayant Sinha entered Parliament premises quarter past ten and will lay the Budget copy in Lok Sabha by 1100 hrs. The Union Cabinet  met in the House to pass the budget.  (agencies)
