For the second month in a row, I'm sharing my What I'm Wearing Now post for the month after the month has already ended. But that's okay, because it's MAY, and that means everything just feels bright and happy (because it's finally freaking spring), and my resulting good mood means I'm going to cut myself a little slack.

That said, April in Chicagoland did not feel like spring, and this was reflected in my wardrobe choices. We did go to Northern California the first week of the month, where it was in the 60s and felt blissful, so I was able to ditch the winter coat and wear a denim jacket. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our annual trip to Arizona due to real life inconveniences like work and school and activities and a hefty dose of procrastination in getting flights, so my April dreams of cut-offs and short gauzy floral dresses was crushed. I did pick up this pretty new very springy dress you see above (which I had to return because it didn't fit but then went and bought the right size and fell in love), so I'm grateful for that.

Thankfully, I can almost guarantee May's edition of WIWN is going to be gloriously full of summer-tinged pieces. Stay tuned!

What I'm Wearing Now: March

Early Spring Style Staples
1. Fine Knit Sweater, H&M  //  2. Silver Hoop Earrings   //  3. Fan Tassel Earrings, Amazon (Only $7.99!)  // 4. Short Jersey Dress (on sale for $6.99!), H&M  //   5. Embossed Cactus Leather Pouch , Madewell  //  6. 3-Pack Rings, H&M (currently on Sale for $4.99!)  //  7Reservable Shopper Bag, L'Eternite (currently on sale for $17.99!)  //  8. Set of 3 Tassel Earrings, Revolia   // 9. Slim Mom Trashed Jeans,  H&M   //  10. Yep. It's April, not March. But time slipped away from me last week, so here we are. And guess what? March looked almost exactly like February. I always have these big ideas that since spring technically begins in March that I'll be delving into my spring clothes. And sometimes that does happen here in Chicago, but not this year. We got snow a couple of times this month, and while there were a couple of days that felt luxurious because I didn't have to wear a jacket, March was still winter.

I wish I had lots of interesting things to say about this month's wardrobe staples, but that's pretty much it guys. Clearly I'm ready for the change of the seasons.

We are headed to northern California this week where it's been in the 70s, then Arizona later this month. So I promise you April's WIWN will be a little more exciting and (fingers crossed) much less wintery.

What did you wear in March? Are any of you regularly donning your spring wardrobe yet?

What I'm Wearing Now: February

Late Winter/Early Spring Casual Style Staples1. Blue Melange Knit Sweater, Basic  //  2. Fan Tassel Earrings, Amazon (Only $7.99!)  // 3. Set of 3 Tassel Earrings, Revolia   //  4. Fine Knit Sweater, H&M  //  5. Blush Blanket Scarf  //  6. 3-Pack Rings, H&M (currently on Sale for $4.99!)  //  7. Embossed Cactus Leather Pouch , Madewell  //  8. Silver Hoop Earrings  //  9. Reservable Shopper Bag, L'Eternite (currently on sale for $17.99!)  //  10. Chuck Taylor Low Tops, Converse  //  11. Organic Skinny Low Jeans in Black, H&M  //  12. Classic Short Boots in Chestnut, UGG  //  13. Slim Mom Trashed Jeans,  H&M

Hello friends! I'm back after my short hiatus, and ready for action. And what better way to ease back into things than a post on clothing?

Aside from a couple of days in the 50s last week that felt absolutely glorious, February has been (as you can clearly see above) as full of winter clothing as the last few months. I won't bore you with my impatient ramblings about my overwhelming desire to switch to a spring wardrobe, but I will say that I am (excessively) excited about the fact this this is the official last What I'm Wearing Now post of winter. Since our trip to California this weekend was canceled last minute, and my plans to enjoy a little sunshine majorly fell through, now I'm more ready than ever to ditch the winter coat in exchange for my trusty denim jacket.

For now, I'm doing my best to continue to embrace the winter wardrobe goodness that is known as layers and wearing lots of scarves and pull-over sweaters. I've also discovered a love for H&M jeans (especially the organic line) which, while inexpensive, are made quite well. My suburban mom stereotype is still going strong with the UGG Boots I once vowed never to wear, as are my beloved Chucks. (I haven't worn a pair of heels since New Year's Eve and I'm good with that.) I'm also still in a committed relationship to my self-cut tassel earrings.

Perhaps next month's WIWN post will allow for a few spring pieces as well. I may even shed a few tears of joy the first time I get to slip on a pretty lightweight maxi dress. Stayed tuned, friends.

What I'm Wearing Now: January

Casual Winter Style Staples
 1. Jacquard-knit Sweater, H&M (ON SALE for $14.99!)  //  2. Fan Tassel Earrings, Amazon (Only $7.99!)  //  3Fine Knit Sweater, H&M  //  4.  Beaded Chain Bracelet, Madewell   //  5. Silver Hoop Earrings, H&M //  6. Blush Blanket Scarf, H&M  //  7. Classic Short Boots in Chestnut, Ugg  // 8Lily Tote Diaper Bag, Newlie   //  9. Skinny Low Jeans in Black, H&M  // 10. Set of 3 Tassel Earrings, Revolia   //  11. Chuck Taylor Low Tops, Converse  //  12. Splash Gabi Sneakers, Minnetonka  (ON SALE)  //   13. Chevron Down Coat, Garnet Hill

It's the first What I'm Wearing Now post for 2018 (aside from the full 2017 What I'm Wearing year in review I posted earlier this month), and wow, look you guys! It's so different from December! Obviously, I'm being sarcastic. But hey, winter is winter in Chicago and whether I like it or not, my beloved spring and summer dresses and sandals are going to be pushed toward the back on my closet for several more months while I'm wearing jeans and sweaters over and over again.

In the meantime, I'm making the best of the cold weather with layers, once again over-wearing UGG Boots (never say never, friends), and living in pull-over sweaters which is honestly so unlike me. (My current favorite - this comfy black number from Target for only $17.99 - isn't shown above.) These tassel earrings are going strong on the daily, too. (If you get a pair, they're really long. One cut of the scissors and they're the perfect length.)

We are planning to go to both Florida and Arizona over the next few months, so hopefully the upcoming months will be slightly more varied. And hey, it is Chicagoland after all - it's always possible we'll have a 70 degree day in there too. A summer girl can dream.

A Year of What I'm Wearing Now: The 2017 Edition

A Year of Casual Outfits
January  |  February  |  March  |  April  |  May  |  June  |
July  |  August  |  September  |  October  |  November  |  December

It has officially been three years since I decided to start a new series here at Bubby and Bean called What I'm Wearing Now. I had just done a reader survey, and several people left comments about how since I'd had Essley a year earlier, it seemed that my outfit posts were practically nonexistent. And they were right. While this has never been a fashion or personal style blog, I'd always shared my outfits at least once a month, but it just wasn't as easy to share posed shots in pretty locations with a baby in tow. I wanted to find ways to continue to share what I was wearing without relying exclusively on outfit posts, and 'What I'm Wearing Now' was born. The series was well received, and it's been fun to continue to do it monthly since then.

I have also put together a mega collage for each year since I started the series, and what you see above is a compilation of 2017. It's really cool for me to look back and see I wore most in a year (and also which pieces didn't prove to be sustainable for more than a short time). I hope you enjoy seeing it as well! If you're interested in specific clothing pieces and where I got them, just click on the links above to see each individual month, where links to every item for that particular month can be found.

And of now, I plan to continue this series into 2018 as well. I'm hoping to share a few actual outfit posts too, old school style. Stay tuned!

What I'm Wearing Now: December

Casual Winter Style Staples
1. Blush Blanket Scarf, H&M  // 2. Set of 3 Tassel Earrings, Revolia  //  3Fine Knit Sweater, H&M //  4.   Beaded Chain Bracelet, Madewell   //  5. Jacquard-knit Sweater, H&M (ON SALE for $14.99!)  //  6. Silver Hoop Earrings, H&M  //  7. Loveland Wrap in Cargo Green, prAna  // 8. Splash Gabi Sneakers, Minnetonka  (ON SALE)  //  9. Skinny Low Jeans in Black, H&M  // 10. Classic Short Boots in Chestnut, Ugg  //  11. Fan Tassel Earrings, Amazon (Only $7.99!)  //  12. Chuck Taylor Low Tops, Converse  //  13Lily Tote Diaper Bag, Newlie

I was hoping that this post would be a perfect mix of cold weather attire and all of the fun, sunshine-y pieces I wore in the Dominican Republic. But, alas, as you probably already know from my excessive wining about it, four hours before I was set to leave for the airport Essley started puking. So I got to stay home with a sick kid. Good times. Needless to say, all of those pretty gauzy dresses and cut-offs and sunglasses I packed went right back into storage. And that means that the final What I'm Wearing Now post for 2017 doesn't look all that much different from last month. But that's life, and clothes are just clothes, and soon enough spring will be here (or that's what I like to tell myself, anyway).

I've once again been having fun with layers, totally over-wearing UGG Boots (which I once was convinced were like omg so suburban mom, and well, here I am), these jeans (which as of the time I type this out are on sale for $19!), and a whole lot of sweaters. I've also been consisting wearing these tassel earrings, everyday and with everything. They're really long but with a swift cut of the scissors they were the perfect length. I'm kind of obsessed.

One thing that doesn't look quite like any of the casual pieces you see here that I will be wearing this month is my New Year's Eve dress. I don't have a photo because it's actually a few years old, but it's blush and full of sequins and completely over the top. In other words, it's perfect. I'm really excited to wear it in Denver on the 31st.

I'll post my usual full year-in-review What I'm Wearing Now Post in early January. And it will be interesting to see what I wear next month, considering we move on the 4th and we'll be doing a lot of painting and other house stuff while our stuff is in boxes. I'm cool with that though. I've never been one to complain about a leggings and old t-shirt uniform.

What have you been wearing this month?

What I'm Wearing Now: November

Casual Winter Wardrobe Essentials
1. Chevron Down Coat, Garnet Hill  //  2. Fan Tassel Earrings, Amazon (Only $7.99!)  //  3. Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  4. Blush Oversized Scarf, H&M  //  5. Set of 3 Tassel Earrings, Revolia  //  6. Fine Knit Sweater in Gray, H&M (ON SALE!)  //  7. Loveland Wrap in Cargo Green, prAna  // 8Lily Tore Diaper Bag, Newlie   //  9. Chuck Taylor All Star Low Tops, Converse  //  10.  Beaded Chain Bracelet, Madewell  //  11. Classic Short Boots in Chestnut, Ugg  //   12. Skinny Low Jeans in Black, H&M

Well guys, it's full on winter here in Chicagoland. There might not be snow on the ground, but it's brutally cold. And that means that it's official my least favorite season for getting dressed. I mean, I can appreciate a good layered look, but a winter coat, blanket scarf, hat and gloves over a sweater over a thermal shirt, jeans, socks, and boots is a little excessive for me.

That said, I've been making the best of the season of excess layers and getting lots of use out of my trusty UGG Boots, favorite jeans, and a winter jacket that is, in my opinion, as cute as it is warm. Sweaters have been on major rotation, which is actually really unusual for me as I've never really been a sweater person. And I've actually had a couple of occasions to wear the amazingly affordable bell-sleeve Nordstrom dress I raved about last time, which makes me happy because I'm admittedly a little obsessed with it, even though it's not my typical style. I've also been feeling the tassel earrings once again. (I mean, how about this fan pair for less than $8?!)

I can't complain too much about having to bundle up right now - we leave in two days to go to the Dominican Republic. That means I'll get to pull out all of my sweet summer favorites and wear them for a solid week in the middle of this frigid winter madness. I'm so stoked.

What have you been wearing this month?

What I'm Wearing Now: October

Fall Wardrobe Staples
1. Loveland Wrap in Cargo Green, prAna  //  2. Tassel Hoop Earrings, Madewell   //  3. Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  4.  Classic Date Black Watch, Lord Timepieces (take 10% off with code BEAN)  //  5. Bell Sleeve Shift Dress, Nordstrom  //   6. Skinny Low Jeans in Black, H&M  //  7. Lily Tore Diaper Bag, Newlie  //  8Splash Gabi Sneakers, Minnetonka  //  9. Chuck Taylor All Star Low Tops, Converse  //  10. Beaded Chain Bracelet, Madewell  //  11. Madison Boots, Trask  //  12. Linen V-neck Top, H&M

Despite a wonderfully warm fall season so far, my summertime wardrobe has officially finally gone into hibernation. And I'm cool with this, because, to be fair, I've gotten to wear my beloved summer dresses and cut offs and kimonos far beyond the time I normally do. Besides, even summer girls can appreciate layers for a while. (Give me a month or two though and I'll be crying my eyes out for a good sundress and some flip flops.)

I've been living in black jeans, sweaters, and Converse this month, but I've actually ventured outside of my casual boho-WAHM-hybrid comfort zone too. I got this dress (#5 above) from Nordstrom for a wedding but have already worn it three times this month. You'll won't believe how inexpensive it was because it looks quite pricey in person. It's so flattering and actually comfortable too. (The stilettos I paired it with for the wedding, not so much.) I've also been way into these tassel earrings.

All good things must come to an end, and I'll put a solid bet on the fact that next month's post will include a winter coat. Sigh. The sunshine was good while it lasted, Chicago.

What I'm Wearing Now: September

Early Fall Style Essentials
  1. Linen V-neck Top, H&M  //  2. Love Bird Sunglasses, Free People  //  3.  Classic Date Black Watch, Lord Timepieces (take 10% off with code BEAN)  //  4.  Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  5. Loveland Wrap in Cargo Green, prAna (use code F17CGMW for 15% off everything on prAna's website through 10/17!) //  6. Skinny Low Jeans in Black, H&M  //  7. Embroidered Linen-Cotton Tank, J.Crew Factory (on major sale!)  //  8. Rene Sandal, Trask  //  9. The Perfect Jean Short, Madewell  //  10Splash Gabi Sneakers, Minnetonka  //  11. Chuck Taylor All Star Low Tops, Converse

It's fall's first What I'm Wearing Now post, guys! Everybody is all "pumpkin spice sweater weather!" the second September hits, but in truth, it was still summer until last Friday. And at least here in Chicago, it felt pretty summery (hello 93 degrees this weekend!) until today, aside from some cool days earlier in the month. I am not complaining about the heat, mind you. I think it is magnificent. But the back-and-forth temps did make getting dressed a little challenging - hence the extreme mix of seasonal pieces you see here.

There have been days I've worn a lightweight tank and cut-offs, and then needed to pull out jeans and a sweater the next morning. (And as much as I adore summer clothing, I have not minded wearing these jeans on the regular. I'm into them.) More often than not I've worn these shoes this month, regardless of whether I was decked in full on summer garb or more cozy fall pieces.

I'm a very casual dresser, but I'm looking forward to dressing up a little more in October (our wedding anniversary, a wedding, and a party are all in the works). And while I'm not ready to say goodbye to my summer wardrobe (I never am), it will be nice to get to layer again. What have you been wearing this month?

What I'm Wearing Now: August

Summer to Fall Style Essentials
  1. Linen V-neck Top, H&M  //  2. In the Loop Hoop + Stud Earrings Set, Free People  //  3. Printed Maxi Dress (similar), H&M   //  4. Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  5. Love Bird Sunglasses, Free People  //  6. Linen Peasant Top,  J.Crew Factory  //  7Magic Braid Cross Body Bag, Lucky Brand (on clearance!)   //  8. Splash Gabi Sneakers, Minnetonka  //  9. The Perfect Jean Short, Madewell  //  10. Chuck Taylor All Star Low Tops, Converse  //  11.  Morocco Sandals in Brown, Minnetonka

I'm just gonna start off real honest like and say that if you read July's What I'm Wearing Now post, this month will likely be pretty boring to you. Summertime is winding down, which means I haven't purchased anything new for the season, and am wearing mainly the same pieces I was last month. And that's cool - I cling onto summer with my fingertips until the bitter end (and beyond), and have been really loving getting use out of my most summery pieces. I'd be lying if I said they weren't starting to feel a tiny bit old, but that doesn't mean I'm even close to ready for sweaters or boots, man.

Lightweight dresses, tees, and cut-offs have once again prevailed - and for that I'm grateful. I've continued to wear sandals almost everyday too, but I have started wearing the occasional closed toe shoe - like a new pair of trusty classic Converse Chucks and these beauties from Minnetonka. Short summer dresses as well as maxi dresses from my beloved and oh-so-affordable Knox Rose line from Target have been on regular rotation as well. (Oh, I also have a new favorite bra. So comfy. So inexpensive. So flattering.)

September usually starts to cool off a little here in Chicagoland, and stores are slammed with fall collections now, so we'll see if next month differs at all in terms of wardrobe around here. But for now, I'm milking summer style for as long as I can.

What I'm Wearing Now: July

Casual Summer Style Staples
1. Printed Maxi Dress (similar), H&M   //   2. Love Bird Sunglasses, Free People  //   3. Linen V-neck Top, H&M  //  4. Embroidered Linen Tank, J.Crew Factory  //  5. The Perfect Jean Short, Madewell    //  6. Cora Chain Wrap Scarf Necklace in Antique Silver, Free People  // 7Morocco Sandals in Brown, Minnetonka  //  8. Magic Braid Cross Body Bag, Lucky Brand (on clearance!)  //  9. Rene Sandal, Trask   //  10. Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  11. Off-the-Shoulder Dress, H&M

July is my very favorite month of the year for What I'm Wearing Now posts. It's usually hot here in Chicago, but not unbearably hot like August tends to me. There are lots of parties and concerts and lake trips and other fun summery things that require me to put on more than my summertime work-from-home shorts and t-shirts uniform. It's the month where I'm most able to take advantage of my favorite pieces in my closet. This has been the perfect July for all of these things, and I'm genuinely sad that there's only a week left of it.

As you can see in the collage above, I've been living in my usual lightweight dresses (including this one and this one which are not shown above but are not to be missed as they are SUPER reduced in price right now), tees, cut-offs and sandals. But I've also ventured beyond my usual comfort zone this month, into maxi dresses - which I've always found beautiful, but don't usual work for my body type. I've actually found the majority of my beloved maxi dresses via the Knox Rose line from Target, believe it or not. They're really beautiful and so flattering and best of all, affordable AF.

We are going on another trip, way up to Door County, Wisconsin, later this week, and the kids and I will be going on another weekend trip to Indianapolis in a couple of weeks - so between our travels and other fun weekend activities (and maybe even a date night or two with Robbie sans kids), I'm hoping for many more opportunities throughout the next month to enjoy pretty summer dresses before my favorite season for fashion comes to an end.

What I'm Wearing Now: June

Casual Summer Style Staples

Love Bird Sunglasses, Free People  //  3. Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  4Classic Date Black Watch, Lord Timepieces (take 10% off with code BEAN)  //  5. Striped Jersey Dress, H&M (only $17.99!)  //  6.  In the Loop Hoop + Stud Earring Set, Free People  //  7. Linen Peasant Top, J. Crew Factory  //  8. Rene Sandal, Trask   //  9Morocco Sandals in Brown, Minnetonka  //  10. The Perfect Jean Short, Madewell    //  11. Magic Braid Cross Body Bag, Lucky Brand (on clearance!)  //  12. Jersey Tee, H&M

It's the most wonderful time of the year for fashion, guys. And yes, I know I'm in the minority for feeling this way, especially among autumn-loving bloggers, but give me alllll the sundresses and sandals and swimsuits and summertime accessories. Layers are fun for a while for me, but I get bored with them easily. I'd much rather just throw on a couple of simple pieces and be done with it. This is my favorite time of year for dressing, and my favorite time of year for writing What I'm Wearing Now posts.

The weather has been hot and humid in Chicago this month, so there have been lots of short, lightweight dresses, tanks,  cut-offs and sandals happening. I also just got back from a week in northern California where it was much less humid but still quintessentially summer, so there wasn't much of a change as far as wardrobe went. My two favorite Target dresses (not shown above because the images just don't work with my collage, man; check them out here and here) have been staples once again this month, along with these fringe sandals (and Essley in her matching pair).

I'm hoping for lots of the same in July. We have a couple of lake trips planned next month so I'm thinking there will be a couple cute bikinis in the mix too. What have you been wearing this month?

What I'm Wearing Now: May

Casual Early Summer Style Staples
1. Linen Peasant Top, J. Crew Factory  //  2.  In the Loop Hopp + Stud Earring Set, Free People  // 3. Clear Mirrored Sunnies (only $9.99!), H&M  //  4. Off The Shoulder Dress, H&M (sold out - lots of cute similar selections here)  //  5. Classic Date Black Watch, Lord Timepieces (take 10% off with code BEAN)  // 6. Silver Hoop Earrings Set, H&M  //  7.  Pinter Wash Jean Jacket, Madewell  //  8.  Jersey Tee, H&M  //  9. Palm Pattern Dress, H&M  //  10. Morocco Sandals in Brown, Minnetonka  //  11. Rene Sandal, Trask  //  12. The Perfect Jean Short, Madewell

Summer - and my favorite time for fashion - is almost here you guys. This month has had an extreme mix of the type of weather you'd normally find in March and July, but there have also been plenty of days that were in that perfect zone of 70s and 80s temperatures that are ideal for the short, flowy dresses and cut-off shorts I so enjoy wearing on the regular. When it comes to style, life is good.

Since I spent part of April in Arizona, this month's What I'm Wearing Now admittedly doesn't look that different than last month's. I've been living in the same cut-offs and tees and kimonos, and have been wearing these two Target dresses (not shown above; check them out here and here) on repeat. These sandals have once again been on regular rotation as well (as has this matching pair with Essley). I've also been wearing a lot of my two favorite dresses from last summer, as seen in the collage above.

I'm looking forward to the heat that will undoubtedly come with June and getting to live in alllll my lightweight summertime boho-vibes favorites. We're also spending part of next month in northern California (aka my fashion soulmate when it comes to locations) so I'm looking forward to picking up a couple of new pieces while I'm there. As always, I'll be sure to share.
