13 Fictional Characters You Might Not Know Are Canadian

The editor-in-chief of Marvel asked his writers to specifically create a character named "Wolverine" who is from Canada and who is ambiguously working for the Canadian government.

While it isn't revealed where Wolverine's longtime nemesis was born, there are a few plot lines that tie him to Canada: His nickname "Sabretooth" was first used by a "small Canadian community," and while working with Wolverine as an agent to the Canadian government, tensions between the two started to arise.

The Marvel heroine, who made her first appearance on X-Men, and her twin brother Jean-Paul were both born in Montreal, Quebec. Her adoptive parents in the comic then sent her to an all-girls school in "LaVelle, Quebec," which is actually a fictionalized place.

Like Aurora, Nemesis is a superheroine on the Alpha Flight team and a fellow Canadian. In later plot lines, she led a new team sponsored by the Canadian government to overtake Alpha Flight.

Marvel created an all-Canadian cast of superheroes they named "Alpha Flight." The team worked for "Department H" of the government — a made-up branch of Canada's Department of Defence. Members included Aurora

Guardian, Marrina, Northstar, Puck, Sasquatch, Shaman, Snowbird, and Vindicator, and their main operation headquarters were based in Ontario, British Columbia, and Winnipeg.

The protagonist for the video game is said to be born "in Canada, close to the American border," with the exact location not disclosed. If we're guessing, based on his circumstances in the game, we're going with Windsor (JUST KIDDING, WINDSOR).

Or, rather, Dr. Meredith Rodney McKay. The role was made famous on Sci-Fi's Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Dr. McKay, the character, was Canadian, but so was the actor who played him, David Ian Hewlett.

Deadwood is an American western series, but one of its main characters and protagonist (based on a real-life historic figure), Seth Bullock, was a Canadian hardware store owner in Etobicoke, Ontario.

The antihero, also known as Wade Wilson, just had a blockbuster reprisal by Ryan Reynolds (a CANADIAN), but few people know the background of the character: Well, one because it's intentionally kept ambiguous, but it's made clear he is a Canadian citizen. An appropriate Hollywood casting, eh?
