Past Simple vs. Past Continuous

These two tenses usually have only several situations where they can meet within one sentence.
  1. The action, which was going on at some time in the past, was interrupted by another action.
  2. As Past Continuous shows the action in progress at specific time in the past, the key is to understand how this specific moment is indicated.
